January is Mindfulness Month at Pfeiffer

In order to help understand the reasons behind why mindfulness is important, the first two weeks we will watch the attached video and discuss how our brain responds when we are calm vs. emotional. When we are calm, we are using our upstairs brain, and it is easy to think rationally, react with empathy and problem solve. However, when we are triggered, we are reacting from our emotional downstairs brain. This part of our brain does not think rationally, but responds through fight, flight, or freeze. The video describes losing control of our emotions as "flipping our lid" which may look different for each student. Our goal is to begin the conversation to help students be mindful of their own triggers and reactions so that they can begin to self-regulate their own emotions. We will introduce students to mindfulness practices which help calm down the brain so that the upstairs brain can begin thinking clearly again. These practices include deep breathing, grounding, and mindful listening.

Parent/Teacher Communication is key!!

Conferences are coming in February, but why wait if you have a question or concern. The first point of contact is always the teacher. If you have a question regarding the content or a student behavior in the classroom, please contact the teacher by calling the Pfeiffer office and asking for the teacher or e-mailing the teacher directly. Research suggests that positive communication between parents and teachers will increase student achievement.

Let's Celebrate Again!!

As an Overall A Award winner, our school’s report card shows our school is demonstrating high academic performance and building bright futures for students of every background and ability level. Congratulations on this impressive achievement!

Ohio’s strategic plan for education, Each Child, Our Future, is the state’s plan to ensure each student is challenged, prepared and empowered for his or her future by way of an excellent prekindergarten through grade 12 education. Our mission is to prepare students for a future that has yet to be written. Many consider this to be a daunting endeavor. Our education team made up of staff, parents, and students, however, has clearly embraced this challenge.
