West Welcomes TRIAGE
The Central Bucks West Music Department welcomes modern jazz trio TRIAGE to their stage Tuesday, March 4, as part of their guest artist jazz series. Comprised of Doylestown natives Jarrett Gilgore (alto saxophone), Noah Jarrett (upright bass), and Kevin Ripley (drums), Triage performs mostly original music, occasionally featuring the masters of free jazz such as Ornette Coleman, Don Cherry, Dewey Redman, and more. The trio plays with a vision of creating organic and relevant improvised music, alternating between the meditative and cacophonous, animated and meditative, fluid and far-out. Gilgore is an alumni of CB West and Ripley an alumni of CB East, so we are very excited to welcome these students back to the halls to perform and work with our students. Noah is the son of world-renowned jazz pianist Keith Jarrett and plays with as much conviction and artistry as his father.
Under the direction of Neil Delson, CB West has earned a reputation for pushing the boundaries of modern literature. The concert will also feature special guests, the Council Rock North Jazz Ensemble. Under the direction of Walter Young, a former student of Delson's, Council Rock North is well-known for exploring the limits of modern big band charts. Both bands will showcase original music by Triage, Bob Brookmeyer, Darcy James Argue, Radiohead, Pat Metheny, and many more. Community ensemble Jazz4Nothin will open the program.
The event will begin with a clinic at 3:30pm, which we encourage any interested students to attend. The trio will hear each of the high school groups perform and discuss concepts such as improvisation, ensemble feel and style, and understanding the modern jazz idiom.
The concert will be held in the Central Bucks West Auditorium, beginning at 7:00pm, doors opening at 6:30pm. All tickets are General Admission Seating. For advance discount ticket sales, contact Neil Delson at ndelson@cbsd.org or call 267-893-2547. Tickets are $8 (adults) and $5 (students and senior citizens). Will Call is available. Tickets at the door will be available at 6:00pm for $10 (adults) and $5 (students and seniors).
Triage CDs will be for sale in the lobby before and after performances. Tickets for Jazz on the West Side, our April Cavalcade Festival will also be on sale in the lobby.
CB West Is Proud!
Students from various technical schools in Montgomery, Bucks, and Delaware counties competed in the 2014 SkillsUSA District 2 Competition, hosted by the Central Montco Technical High School on January 28th and January 29th, 2014. 37 Middle Bucks Institute of Technology students earned medals at the conclusion of the competition.
Gold, silver, and bronze medals were awarded in 31 competitions that included architectural drafting, web design, commerical baking, and leadership skills. This District competition provided an opportunity for students to demonstrate skills mastered in their technical programs. Leadership activities such as public speaking, job interviewing, and parliamentary procedures allowed students to demonstrate their understanding of functioning in a democratic society. Individuals from business, industry, and education were on hand to judge the various competitions.
Gold medal winners will represent Middle Bucks Institute of Technology at the SkillsUSA Pennsylvania State competition on April 9th. State gold medal winners will then advance to the National SkillsUSA competition in Kansas City on June 23rd.
Congratulations to the following CB West students:
Shelby Parker - Architectural Drafting - Gold Medal Recipient
Eric Bradley - Carpentry - Silver Medal Recipient
Justin Ott - Photography - Silver Medal Recipient
Samantha Arrao - Esthetics - Bronze Medal Recipient
