From the Principal
Another year has almost come to an end and we are so proud of all of the accomplishments of our students and staff members, especially amid Covid-19 challenges that appeared around every corner we turned. We sincerely appreciate each and every one of you, our parents and community members, for your dedication in helping us make this year another successful one.
Speaking of next year, there are still so many unknowns about how school will open and under what circumstances that we are not at this time ready to commit to our annual Leopard Express. School supplies are for sale through the website and we will have some sort of meet the teacher event for students to know and meet their teacher(s) prior to the first day of classes. We will make every effort to have the information on multiple media sources including email, our website, the marquee, phone calls and messenger. Please begin looking for that the first part of August as our first day of school is August 23rd!
The end of a school year is always very busy with many activities for all grade levels, it just looks a little different this year of Covid. STAAR continued to dominate our calendar with the last of the testing on Thursday with our 5th grade science testers. We welcomed many, many virtual students to our campus for the testing and all three days went without a hitch thanks to our awesome counselors and administrative team. Field days will be this week but will be during each grade level large group time. Unfortunately, outside visitors will not be able to attend.
We have worked closely with our partner Cy-Fair High School and have been able to schedule and continue our annual tradition of some of our Lamkin alumni seniors walk our halls in their caps and gowns to celebrate their graduation, and also allow our kids to see their success and what they have to look forward to! This year will be an outside event as our students will line the walkways outside and cheer on with pride our former Lamkin Leopards as they circle the building. We are all looking forward to that!
I must shout out to our PTO, small as it is, who did an outstanding job of helping to make this year one to remember…we couldn’t have done it without them…thank you! Please consider helping with this very worthwhile organization next year, we NEED our volunteers back and ready to help!
We wish you and your family a safe, healthy, fun and happy summer and look forward to seeing everyone again on August 23, 2021, the first day of school for the 21-22 school year!
As always, if you have a question or need any information, please do not hesitate to call the school, we’ll be happy to help in any way possible, and again, thank you for your support and dedication to Lamkin.
Credit-by-Exam
Students in grades K-5 will have four opportunities during the school year to use “credit-by-exam” to accelerate to another grade level. Students will only have one opportunity to test for each grade level considered.
To apply to take the test to skip kindergarten, a student must be 5 by September 1, and registered in a CFISD school. To apply to take the test to skip grade 1, a student must be 6 by September 1, and enrolled in a CFISD school.
Students who earn scores of 80% or better on each component of the credit-by-exam will qualify to advance one grade. Only one grade level may be “skipped” each year. No retests will be given.
If you are interested in getting more information about credit-by-exam, please contact the school counselor.
School Supplies for 2021-2022
Attention 5th Grade Parents and/or Guardians
6th grade Course Verification is currently open and closes on June 3rd.
To view your student’s courses for the 2021-22 school year, please log in to HAC (Home Access Center). Changes can be requested via HAC.
Below are the instructions on how to access HAC and locate the course verification.
From the Nurse
As the end of the school year approaches, we would like to remind you to pick up any medications you provided to the school clinic this year. According to CFISD Board Policy, medications must be retrieved from the clinic by a parent/guardian or designated responsible adult. Please make arrangements to pick-up your student’s medications by the last week of school and no later than 4:00 p.m. on June 3rd. Medications not collected by this deadline will be disposed of according to CFISD policy.
If you have a Pre-K student going into Kindergarten next year, your child will need to get a round of immunizations once they turn 4. Please make sure that your child receives these vaccines and once obtained, bring a copy of the updated immunization record to the school nurse. Your child will need to have these completed before the start of the next school year.
Are You Moving?
We are hopeful that all of our Lamkin Leopards return for the 2021-22 school year. However, we know that some students will not return due to moving or other reasons. It will help us plan for next year to know if you are 100% sure that your PK-4th grade student(s) will NOT return. Please email Ms. Torres at Suami.torres@cfisd.net and let her know the names of your students if they will not be returning to Lamkin.
