If your not so sure you are ready, then here are things you should be asking yourself:

  • Can your baby hold his or her head in a steady, upright position?
  • Can your baby sit with support?
  • Is your baby mouthing his or her hands or toys?
  • Is your baby interested in what you're eating?

Here are some tips:

  • Hold the baby in a comfortable upright position during the first feedings
  • If the baby is used to warm formula, heat the foods and use your wrist to check the temperature
  • When you start feeding the baby cereal, make it very runny by diluting it with either breast milk or formula.
