The First Week of School for Kindergarten!
It was another great week at Nixon School! While the heat had us being artful with some experiences, like recess, we certainly made the most of it. Our kindergartners joined the school days on Tuesday successfully. These beginning days are fun and give the children an understanding of their classroom and schoolhouse. Navigating the schedule, lunch line, specials, and classroom rituals are all coming about in a positive way.
Over the past two weeks, I have attended to the lunch sessions for each grade. This is to assist with setting the guidelines for the cafeteria space, supporting children, training staff, and for first time experiences in the new tranquil Nook seating areas. We have three Nook seating options for children. Classroom teachers plan with the children for who will sit in each space based on student preference. The third Nook is planned for installation in the cafeteria on Monday, September 11 as this seating option was delayed by shipping.
The heat outdoors offered us some challenge this week. Each member of our staff work together to keep the days cool, fun, and enriching. While most of our classrooms have portable air conditioners, we used many fans to provide a cooler classroom experience.
Looking forward to seeing you next week! Please enjoy the weekend.
Sincerely,
Susan Woods
Nixon School Principal
