The Lion's Share Newsletter
March 2023
From the Desk of Mr. Miller:
Can you believe that we are close to the start of the 4th and final quarter of the year? As we begin to wrap up the 3rd quarter, I would really just like to thank all of you for your hard work this year. We have had so many parents volunteer, contribute to our School Accountability Committee, attend PTA meetings, come to our school events, and we have felt so incredibly supported by you this year! As I have shared before, we are seeing tremendous growth from our students this year, so they also deserve recognition for their efforts!
Please be sure to check out the March calendar below, as we will have a few days off of school this month, in addition to Spring Break! I sure do hope you can find some time to relax and have some fun during Spring Break as I know you all deserve it.
Please continue to monitor the weather as February was bitterly cold, and I am sure that we still have a good amount of cold days to come in March. Be sure to send your Lions to school dressed for warmth as we do have outdoor recess when it is above 20 degrees!
Have you RSVP'd with your teacher yet to come join us this Friday for Read Across America Day? If not, please do so soon! We would love to have you join us from 2:20-2:50 to read with your student. If you don't RSVP, you will have to check in with the office, which could reduce the amount of time you have with your student. We hope you can join us!
Thank you for taking the time to check out the newsletter!
Have a great day,
Ryan Miller, Principal
CKH Focus for March: Courage
This month we are spending our focus on Courage! This is something that all of us could use! courage is when you work through challenges and difficulties. Having courage is facing your fears, even when you feel uncomfortable.
What is Courage?
Courage is the ability and strength to face something that may be difficult or challenging. Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather perseverance in the presence of fear and the willingness to stand up for what is right or to try something new even though it may be uncomfortable or uncertain.
Why focus on Courage?
- Courage encourages engagement. Courage helps students raise their hand, participate, try new things, and voice their opinions.
- Courage builds self-confidence. Courage is the choice to act. By doing something, students increase their belief in themselves and their ability to do difficult or challenging things.
- Courage can help reframe a negative. When something does not go as planned or a student gets upset about a mistake or failure, courage can help reframe the event in a positive light.
Courage in Action:
- Provide leadership opportunities. Students can learn and demonstrate leadership by teaching and mentoring others, classroom roles and responsibilities, or community outreach.
- Encourage discussion and debate. Foster curiosity and empower students to formulate ideas and engage in respectful discourse and conversations.
- Celebrate failures. Create opportunities to reduce fear of failure and celebrate when students try something new, even if they are not successful the first time.
Student Feature
What do you love most about Grant? "I love how nice it is and how nice all of the people are."
What do you love about being a 5th grader this year? "I love how we get to learn new things and that my teacher, Mr. Sanderson, is preparing us for next when we go to 6th grade."
What do you think about Capturing Kids’ Hearts: "I like it because it makes you become involved. It really rewards you, as a student, to always do the right thing."
What do you want to be when you grow up? "I would love to be a construction worker or football player when I grow up. My dad is a construction worker and it would be a really fun experience."
What’s your favorite subject: "My favorite subject is math because for me, some of the lessons are challenging, but Mr. Sanderson makes it fun through educational games."
What does it mean to you to be a Grant Lion? "I feel pride because I have done so well for the past 6 years here. I am really proud of myself!"
Fun from February!
