Kindergarten Classroom Guidance

Accident? Now what should I do?

Learning Target: I can identify what to say and do when I do something on accident.

This month our kindergarteners are learning the difference between doing something on accident and doing it on purpose. From here, we learned what to do when something is done on accident. We role played scenerios in class and had each student practice what to say and do to apologize, state "it was an accident", and ask their friend if they were "ok". This affords students to ability to build relationships with others by knowing what to do when we have hurt or offended a friend, even when it is an accident. We also discussed and modeled the importance of looking someone in the eyes when apologizing.

Application: Ask your child to tell you the difference between an accident and doing something on purpose. Then have them demonstrate the right way to "make things right" with someone after an accident has happened.

ASCA (American School Counseling Association) Standard: PS: A1.9 Students can demonstrate cooperative behavior in groups.
