Cedar Crest Virtual
October Newsletter 2020
Message from the Principal
Hello CCMS Falcon Families,
Thank you for a very enjoyable and successful start to the new school year. We are grateful for all of the support that you have provided for your students to be successful. We strive to work in cooperation with our families and are so appreciative of your support.
Please read this online newsletter so that you have up to date information related to the K-8 Virtual School, as well as links to the newsletters for each building.
Please take the time to complete the parent survey linked below. This information and parent feedback is vital for our team and district to be reflective and thoughtful with our decision making as we continue to develop the virtual school experience for our students and families.
Although we have had many positives to the start of the school year, there are many students in each class who are struggling to adapt to the academic expectations of being a virtual student. Although every family has a different home situation, it is vital to the success of the student to have home support to ensure they are actively engaged daily in the live lessons, and also completing their assignments and tests. Please review the "Home Support Tips" outlined below and reach out to your teacher or me if you would like to discuss the best way to support your student.
Home Support Tips
Students need supervision and support at home during live lessons.
*Supervision at home helps to keep students on task and to avoid distractions from learning.
Students are strongly encouraged to turn on their cameras as it is difficult for teachers to engage students who are not interacting with them.
*There are a significant amount of students who are signing into TEAMS, but are not responding to their teachers when called upon. Teachers need a helping hand at home to ensure students are participating in the lessons and completing their assignments.
Students are being assessed daily with assignments, quizzes, projects and test.
*Skyward and Schoology are being updated regularly with grades and progress.
*Please set aside a regular time to have your child show you their daily assignments in Schoology and grades in Skyward so you are aware of what is completed or not.
Please check Schoology for feedback from the teachers.
Please check Skyward for grades on assessments.
Student attendance is mandatory
*Parents/Guardians are permitted 10 parent notes per school year for excused reasons.
Anytime a student is absent, they have 3 days to turn in a parent or medical note.
After 3 unexcused absences, parents will be contacted for a Student Attendance Improvement Plan (SAIP).
After 6 unexcused absences and a completed SAIP, parents can receive fines.
We do everything we can to avoid this. Parents should check their child's attendance
daily on Skyward and follow the instructions below to turn in notes to the school.
Please see the instructions outlined below to turn in notes for an absence.
We are all in this together with a common goal to teach and support our students to be successful. We know this is a difficult time with many challenges. Good communication between families and the school help to provide supports and build a relationship of understanding and cooperation. Please reach out to your teacher or me if you have any concerns or your child needs support.
Thank you, we are thankful to have this opportunity to work together with students and families to provide a great year for our students!
Sincerely,
Joseph Burton

What is Wings of Praise?
Wings of Praise is a District wide positive behavior support program.
We have 4 core values that we teach, recognize and reward in our students.
Students are eligible for weekly, monthly and quarterly reward drawings for every Wings of Praise they receive.
The Wings or Praise program is funded by local companies that believe in our mission that teaching, recognizing and rewarding our 4 Core Values will develop responsible students who become responsible employees, community members and neighbors in our community in the years to come.
