TUTORING!
If your child purchases breakfast from the cafeteria, please have them go there first, get their breakfast, and bring it down to the room. It is important to have them to school as close to 7:00am as possible in order for them to get the full benefit of the tutoring session. Tutoring ends at 7:30(35), so if they show up at 7:25, that doesn't give much time to go over the lesson.
Monday and Wednesday (Reading) -7:00am - Ms. Ferrier's room
Tuesday and Thursday (Math) - 7:00am - Mrs. Schluter's room
Friday - 7:00am (Both) - Open. We will help students on this day with any subject we feel necessary or they feel they need help in.
Our Week Coming Up At A Glance:
Writing:
- NO SPELLING QUIZ THIS WEEK DUE TO BENCHMARK TESTING ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY.
- We will continue working on using quotation marks to show dialogue in a piece of writing and also to identify titles to stories, movies, songs, etc.
Reading:
- NO READING VOCABULARY QUIZ OR REGULAR READING ASSESSMENT DUE TO THE BENCHMARK TESTING ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY.
- We will continue to work on summarizing using GIST and checking our comprehension by using Author’s Portrait.
- We will continue to practice our choral reading. This is a great way to help with fluency. We read a paragraph together out loud as a class at a pace that I set. The more we practice this, the faster we will get and the more fluent we will become.
- Your child should continue reading or be read to nightly for 20 minutes and then getting their reading log initialed.
- We will continue learning third person, as it pertains to the point of view from which a story is being told. We will also be working on sensory details, imagery and figurative language.
- We continue our novel study, Bud, Not Buddy. We are almost finished! :)
Social Studies:
- We will continue be looking at what lead to the Revolutionary War, the results, and how the U.S. Military was formed.
- We are also beginning our projects for Black History Month in February. They will be due January 31st. The students signed up last Friday for the person that they would like to do their project on. Please see the letter that will be coming home on Tuesday, 1/16/18!
