Make your days merry and bright!
Did you know:
- The average preschooler laughs or smiles 400 times a day?
- By the time we reach 35, the average is 15 times a day.
- People smile only 35% as much as they think they do.
- Laughter releases endorphins, a chemical 10 times more powerful than the pain-relieving drug morphine.
- A good, hearty laugh can burn 3.5 calories.
Here are some other benefits of laughter, according to the Mayo Clinic:
Short-term
A good laugh has great short-term effects. When you start to laugh, it doesn't just lighten your load mentally, it actually induces physical changes in your body. Laughter can:
- Stimulate many organs. Laughter enhances your intake of oxygen-rich air, stimulates your heart, lungs and muscles, and increases the endorphins that are released by your brain.
- Activate and relieve your stress response. A rollicking laugh fires up and then cools down your stress response, and it can increase and then decrease your heart rate and blood pressure. The result? A good, relaxed feeling.
- Soothe tension. Laughter can also stimulate circulation and aid muscle relaxation, both of which can help reduce some of the physical symptoms of stress.
Long-term effects
Laughter isn't just a quick pick-me-up, though. It's also good for you over the long term. Laughter may:
- Improve your immune system. Negative thoughts manifest into chemical reactions that can affect your body by bringing more stress into your system and decreasing your immunity. By contrast, positive thoughts can actually release neuropeptides that help fight stress and potentially more-serious illnesses.
- Relieve pain. Laughter may ease pain by causing the body to produce its own natural painkillers.
- Increase personal satisfaction. Laughter can also make it easier to cope with difficult situations. It also helps you connect with other people.
- Improve your mood. Many people experience depression, sometimes due to chronic illnesses. Laughter can help lessen your depression and anxiety and may make you feel happier.

Life's too short not to laugh. Remember to have fun!
Finish Strong
sweatpants or leggings + long sweater.
We'll also be randomly drawing names to come select something out of a bag of little goodies -- nothing big but just a little treat for fun! Our apologies in advance for using the PA system a little more frequently for this purpose.
End of the semester
Incompletes
Now would be a really good time to run a Semester grade report to check for blanks and Incompletes from the 1st 9 weeks.
As you know you can’t have any blanks and I would consider it a GIFT if you would clear those Incompletes!
Please email or call Debbie Weiss for assistance with blank grades – She'll be happy to help. If you aren’t sure you still have any “I” that you haven’t cleared, she can glad to help with those as well.
Remember, if you have an “I” for either 9 weeks or the Exam, you must override the semester grade to “”I” as well.
Eligibility
Remember that eligibility for next semester is based on the 9 weeks grade, not the semester grade.
Last Day
The ONE exam (0/7 simultaneously) that day will be from 9-11.
Staff will convene in the cafe at 11:30 for final reminders. We will also announce our Teacher of the Year at that time. Don't forget to vote!
Pizza will be served.
Grades will be picked up on Friday, December 20th at 3:30 PM.
Please print, sign, and turn in the Class Semester Grade Report. Our registrar does not want the Nine Week report.
Thank you so much for all of your help.
Grades should be completed and grade reports turned in by 3 p.m.

From ESL
The ESL department has created a Google classroom to facilitate communication. Strategies, resources, and information about forms will be posted there. One of our campus goals is to increase student performance on TELPAS and strategies to support this goal are also posted there. The code is 1z2svw.
Textbooks
Dr. Lyons will be sending out numbers so that department heads know our official counts.
After the Thanksgiving break, Ms. Gow will send out the link to the Not Clear List so that you can add anyone not clear this semester.
Thank you!
Schedule Change Procedures for Next Semester
There may be a few schedule changes for next semester due to balancing. Additionally, if you have students in honors/AP who have worked hard and yet struggled all semester, please let the appropriate counselor know if you are concerned.
No schedule changes will be made after the 3rd nine weeks.
