They celebrated with special glasses, a game to find 100 hidden pictures, and estimated how many different things they could do in 100 seconds: How many times could you write your name ? How many times can you clap ? Hop? Do arm circles? Write '100?' A grand time was had by all!

Plaid About Reading - K through 5th Grade Parents
Dear K - 5th Grade Parents,
Now that our kids have plenty of books to read, it's time to once again get Plaid About Reading! The students should be bringing home the parent letter and reading log today. I have also attached them to this email for your convenience. The contest begins this Monday February 4 and runs for 2 weeks. The class in our school that reads the most pages will win $150 and each student will win 2 tickets to Coca Cola Youth Day on Tuesday April 16 at the RBC Heritage Golf Tournament. Since we are in school that day, Mr. Pope approved a "Hooky Day" so the students can go and enjoy the day with their families. Details are in the attached letter and please feel free to contact me with any questions that you may have.
I have communicated this with the students but please remember that only the students that participate in the contest (turn in reading logs) are eligible to win the tickets. Our reading programs teach the students more than just reading. Students must remember to log their reading and they must remember to turn in their logs on time. I'm sure you'll agree that these are all important lessons in helping them become responsible youngsters.
Thank you and Happy Reading!

Altar Servers Needed!!!
Bishop Guglielmone will be celebrating Mass with the South Carolina Council of Catholic Women at their conference on March 9. They have asked for altar servers from our school. It is an honor and a great experience to serve Mass with the bishop, so if you have a child who would like to serve at this Mass, please let Ms. McGlynn know at jmcglynn@sfcshhi.com. The representative she spoke to from the SCCCW thinks girl servers would be most appropriate (since this is a women's conference), but boys are welcomed to volunteer as well.
The Mass will take place at 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 9 at the Marriott conference facility in Palmetto Dunes.
It's time to buy your tickets!!!
Thank you to our current Gala Sponsors!!!

JPII is Hitting the High Marks
As a new school in a competitive market, John Paul II Catholic School has focused on expanding its curriculum to increase the academic success of its students. A primary measure of that success is national standardized tests such as the ACT and SAT. The attached graphic indicates the incredible achievement of JPII’s Class of 2018 on the ACT.
“Last year’s seniors earned an average composite ACT score of 25.6, which is a staggering 7.3 points higher than the South Carolina state average of 18.3,” said JPII Principal Walt Dupre. “Our students scored highest in the critical area of reading, averaging a reading score of 27.8, which is 9.2 points higher than the state average of 18.6.”
Success on the ACT, as well as other factors, allowed JPII graduates to enroll in high-quality colleges and universities such as New York University, Catholic University, American University, Savannah College of Art and Design, Furman University, Wofford College, Clemson University, and University of South Carolina Honors College. Furthermore, based on the ACT college readiness benchmark, the graduates of JPII have a much greater chance of being successful in college compared to their peers.
“ACT college readiness benchmarks indicate that 95% of our students are prepared for their college English courses compared with only 42% of students who attend schools in the state. Overall, nearly half of our graduates have been deemed college ready by ACT compared to 14% of the students in South Carolina,” explained Mr. Dupre. “We are proud of our achievement, which is a testament to the diligent work of both our students and our faculty. We look forward to the continued growth and success of our school and our graduates.”
