Monday 6 January
Welcome Back!
Hope everyone had a fantastic holiday, and are ready for a fun-filled, exciting Term 2 at Halcyon!
Our Growing Community! New students joining:
- Cameron Morgan and Frida Rahbek in Grade 6 who will join Ms. Zago's advisory group.
- Hans Rahbek in Grade 7 and Emily Wilson in Grade 8 will join Mrs. Jones' advisory group.
Visiting Student:
Monday lunchtime, Emily Wilson's friend from New Zealand will be visiting. Please welcome her!
Taster Day Student:
On Tuesday 7 January Brunah Kfuri will be joining Grade 9 as a Taster Day student. Brunah has recently relocated to London from Brazil. Please make her feel welcome!
Any Tech Issues?
Mrs. Crannell will not be in today, however will be in tomorrow, Tuesday 7 January at 0830-1600 should you have any issues.
After-school Activities - Term 2
There are lots of After-school activities this Term. Please read through and make your Advisory group leader aware of which activity you are interested in:
Ms. Virtanen will lead a four (or more) string group (violin, viola, cello). Students can develop their classical musical talent and have some fun! Private lessons are available after the String Quartet Club.
Drama Club - Mondays commencing 13 January
The Halcyon Drama Club, led by Mr. Oliver Proctor, is a space for students to engage in fun and creative drama games and activities. Open to all abilities, the club aims to build a team of budding actors, directors, script-writers (perhaps even the odd singer and dancer) to produce exciting dramatic work.
Table Tennis Club - Tuesdays commencing 14 January till end of February
Table Tennis Coaching will be offered by a former Table Tennis pro, Natasha from TopSpin. The sessions will take place in Stern Hall from 1600-1700 on Tuesdays.
Football Club - Tuesdays commencing 25 February till end of May
The popular Football club running as an after-school club from Term 1 will continue during the second part of Term 2. The fun sessions will focus on fitness, skills, shooting, formations and tactical awareness during a match.
Debate Club - Tuesdays or Thursdays commencing 14 January
Following a successful whole school debate last Term, Debate Club will continue this Term for those students who are interested in developing and practicing their public speaking (and arguing!) skills. Students will debate a broad range of topics, including education, technology and politics. This will be a fun and lively activity, with students thinking about and discussing complicated issues.
GIN Club - Wednesdays commencing 15 January
Global Issues Network will continue this term and allow students to engage with current events on a global scale. Students will develop their own ideas for how to tackle global issues. It will concentrate on small projects and the emphasis will be on action. In time, GIN will become a student-led activity, which will aim to enable students in the Halcyon community to effect positive change.
Choir Club & Private Singing Lessons - Thursdays commencing 16 January
We will be running a school choir led by choir mistress Ms. Lucinda Allen from Singing Nation every Thursday afternoon from 1545-1630 in the canteen.
**All students who might be interested in joining are invited to participate in a Choir Taster Session after school on Thursday, January 9th. Everyone is welcome to join this free choir taster session.
There will also be Private Singing Lessons with Ms. Allen after the choir club on Thursdays.
Mandarin Club - Thursdays and one lunchtime (TBC)
We are delighted that Mandarin Club will be taught by Halcyon's part-time Mandarin teacher, Ms. Lin who knows the students and is an experienced classroom and private instructor.
The club will meet twice a week, after school on Thursdays and one lunchtime to be determined by the individual students.
Homework Club - Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays
Students are always welcome to complete homework at school in the Hub at the end of the day. This term, Homework club is open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in the Hub between 1545 and 1645 (as well as every lunchtime Monday-Friday).
Lunchtime Activities - Term 2
Halcyon TV - Mondays with Mr. Jones
Calling all budding anchor men or women! Halcyon TV Club is an opportunity for those who want to develop their presenting, writing, creating, investigating and/or technological skills, and is open to everyone.
C&S Club - Mondays and Thursdays with Ms. Zago
Are you interested in building a stronger Halcyon community, environmental issues or helping people in the wider community? For example, do you want to become a Halcyon Ambassador? If so, please come along to Halcyon's Community and Service Club with Ms. Zago to see how we can work together on exciting projects for the community.
Art Club - Tuesdays with Mrs. Dance
Come to the Art Club and use this time to find out how to use your own sketchbook (separate from the one in class) in a fun, colourful, exciting and meaningful way, so that it becomes a work of art. Bring your own pictures or photographs (anything you like) to give you ideas for your own work. You will be using the book for drawings, painting, collage and mixed media. You can set your own themes for the term.
Science Club - Wednesdays with Ms. Fritz
The term will start with a crystal growing competition but students are also encouraged to develop their own science projects either individually or in groups.
Film Club - Fridays with Ms. Cooke & Mrs. Jones
Students will be shown a variety of films during the Term, some of which may link in with subjects they are studying at the time. Types of film will range from factual documentaries to creative fictional visions. Students will be invited to discuss and reflect on the merit, content and style of films.Upcoming Trips

- Art Books and pencils
- Sensible walking shoes
