Message from Principal Eliason
Greetings Seahawk families! Our school year is off to a great start. Students have been busy learning first quarter academic content, have set Wildly Important Goals for both reading and math, and are demonstrating our school-wide PBIS expectations which are to always Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Ready to Learn.
If you have not yet done so, please visit the CCPS Parent Portal to update your child's Emergency Card for the year. A change this year is the option to "opt-in" to School Health Basic First Aid and Non-Academic Counseling. Checking these boxes allows our school nurse and health clinic aides to assist your child when sick or injured. It also allows our school counselor the opportunity to work with your child on things like friendship, conflict resolution, and peer connections. If you have any questions about this, please reach out to our office so we can answer them for you.
We hope to see our SLE families on Tuesday 9/13 at Curriculum Night from 5:00-6:30. See details about Curriculum Night below.
Wishing all of our families and wonderful fall. Thank you for all the support you've given your child and our staff as we've begun this school year.
In Partnership,
Amber Eliason
Principal

Throughout the evening, be sure to stop by the Courtyard to say hello to our new principal, Ms. Amber Eliason. She's looking forward to meeting more families and building connections with families! Our Media Center will be open for evening Book Fair shopping. Jeremiah's Italian Ice will be for sale in the Courtyard with a portion of the proceeds going to the Shadowlawn Parent Teacher Organization.
Presentations will be done in two sessions to accommodate for parent work schedules and to also give families with more than one student a chance to go to multiple classes. We can't wait to welcome our families to campus!
School Advisory Council & PTO
Our September School Advisory Council meeting will be held on Monday, September 19, 2022 at 7:30 am with our Parent Teacher Organization meeting to occur directly after. The meeting will be held in the Multi-Purpose Room. The SAC agenda is posted in the About Us section of the Shadowlawn website linked at the bottom of this newsletter. SAC meetings are open to all members of our school and greater community.
Our Parent Teacher Organization would love to have new members join us! The PTO serves our students, teachers, and school by providing support for supplies and unique learning opportunities.
Attendance
Please help your child have a great start every day, by ensuring they arrive to school on time. Instruction begins every day at 8:10am. It is important all students are in class by 8:00am so they have time to unpack and get settled before instruction begins. We begin serving breakfast at 7:30 each day to allow students time to eat a nutritious meal before their day begins. Please note, that absences and tardies are monitored very closely, and will be addressed with parents.
Meet our School Counselor: Mr. Conceicao
Click below to read an introduction letter from our new School Counselor, Mr. Eric Conceicao:
Mr. C serves all of our students in a variety of ways supporting them with school, positive behavior, and making smart choices. Please make sure you've opted-in to non-academic counseling on your child's emergency form in the CCPS Portal so your child will have an opportunity to work with our school counselor.
Media Center Minute
Welcome Back! We are so happy to see all of our Seahawks back at school! The SLE Media Center is buzzing daily with students! We checked out 999 books in the month of August! Please talk to your children about what they are reading. They are excited to share. Our first Book Fair of the year will begin on September 12th and end on September 16th. Family shopping night will be Tuesday, September 13th from 5-6:30 pm. We cannot wait to see all of you.
Did you know that when students read for just 20 minutes a night makes a difference!
iReady Online Reading Program
Your child just completed their first iReady diagnostic for this school year. iReady is an online reading program that helps teachers determine their student’s reading needs, personalize their learning, and monitor progress throughout the school year. This Personalized instruction provides students with lessons based on their individual skill level in phonemic awareness, phonics, high frequency words, vocabulary, and comprehension. Your child can learn at a pace that is just right for them. These lessons are fun and interactive to keep the students engaged as they learn. Please talk to your child about what they are learning in their lessons and what their pass rate is. We have grade level competitions to see which class has the highest pass rate.
