Getting to Know the Department

Jacqueline Hilderbrand (Online Learning Lab Paraprofessional at MacArthur High School)

I love my job as an instructional paraprofessional. I love helping students achieve their goals towards graduation. I have been a paraprofessional at MacArthur Senior High school for 18 years. I have been through different programs that we offered in the lab from NovaNet, Plato, and now Edgenuity. I have enjoyed watching students walk across the stage to receive their diploma. It makes me know that I made a difference in those students lives. I have been given the opportunity to take on bigger and better responsibilities that I have achieved over the years. I am so grateful to my co-workers for believing in me.

I graduated from MacArthur High School Class of 1989. I went on after high school to attend Texas School of Business and I graduated in 1990 with a certificate as Legal Secretary. I was working as a secretary for 12 years. After starting my family, I decided that I wanted a career change so I went back to school. I had minor and major setbacks in my life. However in 2012, I received my Associates Degree from Kingwood College. I am currently pursuing my B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of Houston-Downtown graduating in May 2017.

I have been married for 22 years to my wonderful husband, Mike. We have three boys (Willy 22, Mikey 18, and Matthew 4). I love baseball! Both of my boys played baseball since they were four years old. Our youngest son will start next fall so, as we say in our family, we eat, breath, and live baseball. We have a dog named Sammie. She is 6 years old. With the support of my family, I am able to attend school and graduate from college. In my spare time, I love to spend family time with my family either fishing, camping, or just hanging out by the pool.

Procedures for Students Completing or Incompleting Courses

Students Should be Marked:


-Student: The student has exhausted 18 weeks and the student has not completed the course in Edgenuity or Schoology.

-Teacher: The teacher must mark the student INCOMPLETE on E-portal and disable the course in Edgenuity. Do not archive the student.

-Counselor: The counselor must create a new Online Tracking Form (OTF) with the same course if the student still needs the course (with the new start date).


-Student: The student must complete the course in Edgenuity and Schoology and must have a cumulative exam of 70 or above within 18 weeks.

-Teacher: The teacher must mark the OTF complete on Eportal, the course must be completed on Edgenuity, and on the spreadsheet.

-Counselor: If the semester is not over, the counselor must assign a new course as soon as possible in order to minimize loss of instructional time.


-Student: The student is no longer in the teacher's SMS roster before exhausting the 18 weeks.

-Teacher: The teacher must mark the OTF as withdrawn, the course must be disabled, and the spreadsheet should be marked as withdrawn.

-Counselor: The counselor has created a schedule change (prior to the student being marked withdrawn).


-Student: This transfer occurs when the semester is over and the student still has been enrolled for less than 18 weeks in the course.

-Teacher: The teacher will receive an OTF with the word “transfer” after the course name to indicate that this student already has a course in Edgenuity. The teacher must then enable the course in Edgenuity.

-Counselor: When a student needs to roll over the semester, the counselor must create a new OTF with the new teacher's name on it and must write “transfer” after the course name to indicate that the student is transferring teachers (the start date will be the same as the original course. The student will have 18 weeks from original start date).

6th Period Enrollments

Students 9th through 11th grade will now pay a fee of $130 per course for initial credit courses. This fee will have to be paid to a counselor prior student enrollment.

12th Grade students will pay a reduced $30 fee per course.

Milton demonstrated how to use the Go to Meeting link in a whole class instruction lesson. This ensures that IC students are supported to succeed in their IC courses!

Virtual Instructional Time (Initial Credit Students)

In order to better serve our Virtual School (VS) students, the VS teachers have created a schedule to meet with individual students.

Please provide the virtual school conference schedule below to all Virtual School IC Students. It is critical that you review this information with the students. This schedule is in effect today and students can access the teachers via the links provided. If the assigned teacher is not available, the student is encouraged to choose an available teacher and/or email their assigned teacher.

Virtual School students ONLY: Edgenuity courses for VS will display a VS teachers name with the letters VS before the school year.

  • Virtual conference sizes are limited to 25 participating students at a time, with any additional students on standby as students leave the conference room

  • Students must login using their FIRST NAME, LAST NAME, and CAMPUS NAME. Example: John Diaz NimitzHS

  • Students will receive additional participation points based on their attendance in virtual conferences.

Elective Initial Credit Courses Back to the Lab Teacher

Lab teachers will now run the elective initial credit courses. Teachers will enroll students into their Edgenuity course and track their progress.

Whenever students need an extension, please share this video with them so they can understand the extension process.

Thank you for all the lab teachers who have updated their spreadsheets. Remember that your SLOs are now linked to the data on your spreadsheets, so it is vital that you update them weekly.

There have been several teachers who have sent and/or shared with me their own spreadsheet. Every teacher must complete the information on the master teacher spreadsheet copy. I am including a video on how to input your data on the master copy.
