Tips for a Great Parent-Teacher Conference
Tips
- Arrive early, and, if possible, meet with the teacher without your child present.
- Bring paper and a pen for note-taking...this shows that you value the information you are about to receive.
Ask these Helpful Questions to Get the Most out of your Conference
1. May I tell you about my child?
2. May I tell you about what’s going on at home? (Here's the chance to talk about extenuating circumstances and your child's home habits that may affect learning.)
3. How is my child doing socially?
4. What are my child’s academic strengths and weaknesses?
5. Is my child performing on grade-level / on level in comparison with his / her grade-level peers?
6. (If you have a concern): May I share a concern with you / Could you fill me in on a particular situation/ Do you have any concerns about my child's behavior / performance in school?
7. What may I do to help my child at home?
8. What’s the best way to communicate with you?
