Celebrate and Appreciate
How fitting that we've completed five full weeks of distance learning, that next week is Teacher Appreciation Week AND that this month's focus in Onward is Celebrate and Appreciate! Let's be honest- each of you plays a big role in the positive changes our students make. Distance learning has challenged each of us to find creative ways to continue to connect with kids, to continue being that role model we've been all year. Try this: Close your eyes for 30 seconds and think about something you are feeling grateful for. Reflect: What did that feel like? What did you notice?
Aguilar states we need only a few drops of appreciation every day, when combined with other dispositions and habits. That's because feeling and expressing appreciation strengthens social connections, deepens our emotional intelligence and self-confidence, and heightens our ability to focus on the positive. (291.) Gratitude shifts the focus off of ourselves and helps us recognize that our successes are due, in part, to the actions of others (292.)
Our Bulldog Team is strong because of YOU. YOU make a difference every day. YOU take the time to make students and colleagues feel valued and appreciated. YOU know that we are all in this together. During our final month (or so) of this school year, remember to celebrate and appreciate all that lives around you. Take a moment to honestly acknowledge your success, share appreciation with those who helped you get there, and rebuild your inner reserve of resiliency in the process.
Gratitude is like a flashlight. It lights up what is already there. You don't necessarily have anything more or different, but suddenly you can actually see what it is. And because you can see, you no longer take it for granted. -M. J. Ryan
