The Hiawatha Buzz!
March 12, 2021
Growing hearts and minds for a better today and tomorrow: every day, every way, every one.
Principal's Message
Dear families and caregivers,
Today has felt like a day of relief! With the sun shining and the weather warming, we were able to spend more time outside and will continue to do so! We celebrated another 100 bees today with some outside fun. Some classes went on a walk, some played games outside, some used sidewalk chalk, and some played on the playground. It has truly felt like a special day.
This week our whole school meeting was about respecting differences. Our learning targets were: I can describe ways people are the same and different, and I can show respect for those who are different from me. We watched a beautiful video of Swan Lake performed by ballerinas all over the world during COVID which paired nicely with Mr. Evans's last lesson on Misty Copeland. I then read the book All Are Welcome by Alexandra Penfold. We talked about how people are different races, believe in different religions or no religion, have different types of families, eat different foods, wear different clothing, have different abilities and speak different languages. The video and the illustrations in the book highlighted all of this. Here is a link to the presentation including the Swan Lake video: HIA Presentation
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and enjoy time outdoors!
Stay healthy and well,
Katherine
