We read about Mary in Scripture. But during the month of May, Mary is specially honored by devotions around the world. In fact, May is the month of Mary. This May, we encourage children and families to celebrate Mary, the Church's greatest saint.

This month we will be celebrating the sacraments of Confirmation and First Communion with some of our grade 2 students. They have been working very hard to prepare for this big celebration. We will continue to pray for these students in the days to come. Congratulations!

On May 17th our grade 4-7 students will have their track and field day here at the school. We would like to wish everyone good luck but remember the most important thing is to show good sportsmanship. Parents, grandparents and caregivers are more than welcome to come out and cheer the students on.

Basketball is wrapping up this month. Both teams have been working hard and having fun! Thank you to Mrs. Loeppky, Miss Nedelec and Mr. Ross for coaching.

The snow is gone, the ground is dry therefore Running club will begin this month for students in grades 2-7! A note was sent home with more information.

We have some new faces around our school. Miss Nedelec will be teaching in the grade 7 room for most of May while Mrs. Derenoski is working with our division in another capacity. Mr. Gaviada is teaching in the grade 6 room and Miss Risling in the pre-k room for the remainder of the year. We would like to wish Mrs. Lightfoot and Mrs. Welford all the best as they spend time with their families.

It is hard to believe that we are in our last two months of school. We are looking forward to more time outside learning, growing and having fun!

Mrs. Combres & Mrs. Weber

With that being said, when you are picking up or dropping off your children in the parking lot, please refrain from parking on the cement areas (including behind the daycare). The daycare will be utilizing this space and want to keep their kids safe from traffic. Moving forward, please pick up and drop off your children in the city parking lot (gravel area next to the daycare). Thank you for your cooperation!

As the end of the school year approaches we would like any parent or guardian to be aware that in order to help with year end activities, the school needs a criminal record check from the parent. If you are considering being a chaperone, please stop in and pick up the forms at the office. There will be an initial $10.00 fee to have the check done, but that fee will be reimbursed once the forms are complete and brought to the school.

We have had the Boys and Girls Club in our school offering after school childcare this year and we hope it will continue next fall. Please see the Boys and Girls Club website to register your child(ren).

Welcome to the Running Club!

This club is here to start a love for running in our students! This is an introduction to endurance running and will be available for grades 2 - 7 students. Every Thursday in May we will meet after school from 3:30 - 4:15pm to practice long distance running. Listed below is a schedule that we would like to follow and gives an overview for parents interested in what we are doing. Students are to be picked up at 4:15.

Thursday May 5th

First Day! Timed run around the soccer field. We will count our laps and try to beat our number at the end of the month.

Thursday May 12th

Running practice with some fun drills and tag games.

Thursday May 19th

Running practice with some fun drills and tag games.

Thursday May 26th

Final Day! Timed run around the soccer field to see if we can beat our laps!

With the arrival of warm weather finally, it is time to remind everyone about the dress code. Shorts and skirts need to be finger tip length with arms extended at the side, no midriffs shown, no underwear shown, no racer back tank tops (except on track day) and tank tops must have straps that are 2 adult fingers wide, so all spaghetti strap tank tops or dresses must be covered with a sweater or jacket.

Please stop by the office anytime to pick up a registration form. Registration forms were sent home with all current four year old Pre-K students. If your family is moving and leaving the school, please provide the office with that information.

Would you like to give your child a “boost” before he/she starts Kindergarten? Consider Pre-Kindergarten, a FREE education program for 3-5 year olds!

Although open to anyone, preference is given to families who may be in one or more of the following situations:

-single parent family, parent(s) in school, low income

-family receiving social assistance, a child with a behavior or speech problem

What is Pre-Kindergarten?

-it allows children to learn through play in a structured environment.

-it helps children develop language, thinking, behavior, social, fine motor, and gross motor skills.

-it actively involves the family in each child’s education.

When is Pre-Kindergarten?

Children attend classes for 3 hours per day Monday-Thursday and families may request morning or afternoon classes. The program operates from September to June and new students are accepted throughout the year as spaces become available.

Where are the Pre-Kindergartens?

St. Mary’s Community School 306-445-5152 , Notre Dame School 306-445-0283 and Holy Family School 306-445-2360.
