Reading and Writing with 5-M

Back to School

Fifth grade marks the beginning of middle school in Brielle. Students have lockers and much more independence than ever before. I'm happy to report that the students of 5-M have embraced their newfound independence and are making me proud!

Currently, in Reader's Workshop...

Students are setting reading goals for the year. We are also working with vocabulary words that describe setting and characters. Our reader's notebooks have been set up, and we are designing reading logs that will work for everyone (students and teacher).

Currently, in Writer's Workshop...

We set up our writer's notebooks and we're generating ideas for our first official 5th grade writing assignment. Students already completed a writing piece about a summer memory. This time, we are working on composing a piece based on our mentor texts. We want our writer's notebooks to be a collection of good ideas, much like Amelia's 5th Grade Notebook by Marissa Moss.
