WEEKLY NEWS HIGHLIGHTING OUR STUDENTS & STAFF
Don't forget, no school on Friday or Monday! We hope you have a great break and we will see you Tuesday, April 23, which will be a "B" day for OMS, OJH, OHS and FRS.
New record!
The oldest Ozark Junior High Track record finally fell! On April 15, OMS seventh-grader Tamyra Nevills broke a 32-year-old record for girls discus, with a throw of 91 feet 1 inch. Coach Fergerson and Tamyra's parents were there to witness her big moment. The 1987 record was set by Charmyn Wisecup at 89 feet. Congratulations Tamyra!

BUILD Your Own Future
Nearly 80 area school districts with more than 1,000 students, including 70 OHS students, attended the BUILD Your Own Future Expo on Wednesday at the Ozark Empire fairgrounds e-Plex where they learned about various jobs and skills.
Several vocations were represented at the expo including roofing, tile, carpeting, electrical, drywall, road crews and even unions. Students also got to experience driving heavy machinery such as backhoes, forklifts and scissor lifts. Everything was hands-on, which allowed students to test out their skills in various trades.
Math Matters
Out of the nearly 260 elementary and intermediate students who participated in the Missouri Council of Teachers of Mathematics Southwest Regional Competition, hosted by the Southwest Baptist University Department of Mathematics April 6, 38 advanced to state competition, including an Ozark student. West Elementary fourth grader Alan Shih finished in seventh place and will now participate in the state competition on May 4 at Columbia College. He also placed fourth in the team (as a team of one) competition and ninth in number sense.
Congratulations Alan!
Goldilocks is guilty!
First graders at North Elementary put Goldilocks on trial April 16 for trespassing, breaking and entering, and destruction of property. Their Ozark Chamber of Commerce Adopt-A-Class partner, Bruce Galloway Law Office, taught students how a trial works with help from the Ozark Police Department. The jury, which consisted of all students, found Goldilocks guilty and she was taken to jail.
The Ozark Math Team, which consists of Ozark Junior High and High School students, had a successful day at the College of the Ozarks Math Contest April 17. Ozark had the second highest accumulated points for the 3A/4A competition and third highest overall. Congratulations to all the participants!

Today's forecast is ...
Tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, oh my! First graders at South Elementary researched different types of weather to write a report. Then, the young meteorologists used the green screen to deliver the weather news. Great job!
On your mark
This week marked the first meeting of the South Tiger Track Club, which is part of Coach Spohn’s Fitness Club at South Elementary. During the after-school club, students in third through fifth grades will practice a variety of track and field events.
Coke or Pepsi?
Do you remember the Pepsi Challenge? Students in Introduction to Business at OJH taste-tested soft drinks and other food products during their look at the Marketing Mix.
Hands-on learning
Ms. Brockmeier's Design class at OJH welcomed Bree’s Little Closet Traveling Boutique. Students got to hear the story behind the business, help with merchandise and even order a piece to sell.
Egg-Cellent Partnership
Tiger Paw preschoolers had a special visit on April 18, not only from the Easter Bunny and a spring duck, but from some Ozark High School students. OHS students in Work Study class stuffed and hid the eggs for an Easter egg hunt for the preschoolers. What a great partnership!
All about bees!
The theme at Tiger Paw for the next few weeks is gardening and insects. Students in Ms. Shivler's class are learning about bees — and got to look at a real beehive (without the bees, of course). During dramatic play time, students then pretended to be a beekeeper, complete with a hat and a bee smoker. Did you know beekeepers use smoke to calm honey bees? Students are also learning about pollen and why bees are important.
