Tree of Life

"We are living amid the solemnities of the judgment. Our souls should be filled with awe, for we are in God's presence continually. Each one must decide for himself [or herself] whether he [or she] will obey and live or disobey and perish.

"To those who obey, the Word of God is the tree of life. It is the word of salvation, received unto eternal life."

Hot Lunch Wednesday - Purchase your cards today!

Thank you, families, for helping with our lunch again this week as over half of the upper graders are gone to LIFT! This week's Hot Lunch will be K-Loaf, with sides of green beans, salad, and bread. Dessert will be provided by Mrs. Nietling's class. If you would like your child(ren) to have Hot Lunch, you must pre-pay for a lunch card. Cards are $15 each and will last for five lunches. We will punch the cards each week and will send out a notice when they are almost completely punched. Thank you!

School Pictures

School pictures are this Friday! I apologize; I edited the newsletter last week to include that announcement, but I edited after I sent out the email, and so the edits didn't show up for you. Apparently the only correct newsletter was the one available through Facebook. In any case, we are so pleased that Mrs. Shaffer is willing to take our pictures again this year. She did such a nice job last year and keeps things very affordable for us! Please see event information below.

Church Visit This Weekend!

The church visit will be this Sabbath, October 17, 2015. We will be helping with the 9:30 am Sabbath School service at 13th Street in order to give Cadillac families the option of attending the Cadillac service. This unusual arrangement was made because the children at Cadillac have been supporting an Amish Adventist family from Ohio through their mission offerings, and this family will be speaking at the 11:00am worship hour at Cadillac. We didn't want to have them miss out on the opportunity to hear this family's testimony and to meet the people they've been supporting. However, after we changed our plans Sabbath, I have since learned that the Amish family will also share their testimony on Friday night, October 16, 2015 at a 6:00pm vespers at the Cadillac church. You are invited to attend either or both meetings. Afterwards, we will share Sabbath dinner with the 13th Street Church.

Parent Teacher Conferences

First quarter ends this Friday, and generally we have conferences approximately a week later, on the 2nd Monday following the end of the quarter. However, we have a Fall Inservice on the 26th, and then grades 5-8 leave for Outdoor School the 26th and do not return until October 29th. Thus, we will host conferences on November 2nd. This will be a half day of class, with conferences in the afternoon and evening. Sign-up sheets will be available later this week on our classroom doors. If you're not able to meet on Monday, please talk with Mrs. Nietling or Mrs. Graham to set up a different time. Thank you!

Upcoming Events

Iowa Assessments (Grades 3-8)

Monday, Oct. 12th, 8:30am-3:30pm

202 North Carmel Street

Cadillac, MI

Dear Parents:

In the next few weeks, your child will be taking the Iowa Assessments®. Information about your child’s academic achievement is needed to help them excel and succeed. The Iowa Assessments make this possible by providing detailed information about your child in a variety of important content areas including Reading, English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies.

  • The Iowa Assessments help determine how students are performing on the state curriculum as described in the Iowa Core.

  • The Iowa Assessments measure student growth and progress from year to year.

  • The Iowa Assessments help teachers identify a student’s strengths and identify areas that may need additional emphasis. The assessments produce information that enable sound decision making and provide a focus for teachers to evaluate their instruction.

  • The Iowa Assessments provide information about your child’s performance relative to the school, the state of Iowa, and the nation.

Using the results of the assessment, we encourage you to work together with your child’s teacher to identify and address educational needs. The results will help prepare your child for the next step on their educational path.
