Teachers :
The first 9 week grading period ended on October 14th. The grades will be picked up from grade book on Wednesday, October 19th. At that time the 9 week grade report is also due to us in the Registrar’s Office.
October 19th is also PSAT testing day so I know many of you will be out of your classrooms.
It’s a double-stress -whammy I know, so if there is anything we can do to help you finalize your grades before then, or check new students please ask.
Report cards will be in 2nd period teachers boxes on Friday, October 21st.
Reminder about Eligibility
Last Friday, Oct. 14th was the end of our 1st 9 week grading period. Students will lose or regain their eligibility this Friday, Oct. 21st at 4:15.

C2E Surveys for EOS
As many of you know, Plano has partnered with Equal Opportunity Schools (EOS) to encourage a wider variety of capable and willing students to take AP courses. In order to establish a firmer foundation and gauge the results of our current progress, students and teachers are being asked to complete an online survey designed to provide the district/school with overall trends in information and expectations. Students will be completing the survey in their English classes. We ask that you please complete the teacher surveys by Wednesday, October 26th.
The survey probably won’t take more than 30 minutes to complete.

Communication in the event of bad weather
In order to facilitate communicating with all employees in the event of school cancellation due to snow or ice conditions, we are updating the ‘All Employee’ group within the phone messenger system.
Before the trial run, each employee needs to log-in to TEAMS and confirm or update the phone number(s) currently listed in the Employee Service Center (ESC). Instructions for accessing the ESC and for updating your contact information are attached to this email.
Please confirm or update your contact number(s) by the end of the workday on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 21. After this date, the ‘All Employee’ group will be created and a test message will be sent out to all employees in the near future.
In the event of any school cancellation, other resources such as the PISD website, radio and television stations previously used to communicate the closing of schools should continue to be used, along with the School Messenger tool.
If you have any questions, please contact Liz Tycom at liz.tycom@pisd.edu.
Professional Learning
Campus PDH Opportunity --
Due to the state requirement to provide sheltered instruction by trained teachers [§89.1210], specific teachers outlined below are required to receive SI training in order to linguistically accommodate instruction effectively and to provide comprehensible input for English Language Learners (ELLs) [§89.1203]. Since the goal of SI is to provide comprehensible input and develop academic language, content area teachers bear a special responsibility to provide quality SI to our ELLs.
Who is required for participate in SI training?
High School/Senior High
Any 9th-12th grade content teacher who has at least one ELL student, including denials, during the instructional day must provide sheltered instruction. Therefore, SI training will be provided.
Soon, you will be given information regarding a 3-hour online training in Sheltered Instruction that fulfills this state requirement. Additionally, this year you will be allowed to count those hours as campus pdh.
More information will follow.
Campus Professional Development Additional Information
Professionals (Exempt)
As a reminder, the campus principal is responsible for providing 7.5 hours of professional development for teachers in lieu of reporting to work on April 17th. Other professional staff, such as counselors, nurses, and librarians may attend this campus training as well. However, there will be other options also made available for nurses and counselors to attend, if you feel that type of job-embedded learning would be more valuable to them.
Ms. Clark has been sending out campus pdh opportunities for you to attend via Google docs. As a general rule of thumb, we will have various sessions every other Wednesday.
Paraprofessionals (Nonexempt)
Professional learning opportunities are being designed for nonexempt staff, including office managers, CTAs, secretaries, clerks, registrars, and receptionists, in order for them to earn compensatory time off on April 17th. Nonexempt staff will need to attend 5 hours of professional learning to accrue 7.5 hours of compensatory time prior to April 7, 2017 to be eligible to not work on April 17, 2017 . Several departments (Technology, Finance, HR, Professional Learning) will coordinate professional development for eligible nonexempt staff.
The departments working on the professional development opportunities for the specialized areas will be sending their information at a later time.
