DISTRICT ANNOUNCEMENTS & UPDATES
STUDENT SCHOOLOGY LOG IN
We have received several requests from teachers stating that many of their students have forgotten their login information for Schoology. Unfortunately, due to security reasons, there is not an easy way for teachers or IT to extract this information from Schoology. Once IT resets passwords; the office will run a report and provide necessary info for logging into schoology.Emergency Mentor Recertification Training
Due to the large number of requests/needs for Mentors, there will be an emergency mentor recertification training offered in the fall. We are hoping to solidify a September/October date, and will send it out as early as possible. In the meantime, please complete the Mentor Application Form (attached), and if you know who you would like the mentor to support, include the name and position of the new hire on the bottom of the form. You can scan or mail the form to Lisa Hardwig at OTL by Wednesday, 9/14.
Toshiba/NSTA ExploraVision K-12 Science Competition Opportunity
ExploraVision, which is sponsored by Toshiba and administered by NSTA, was created to help motivate K-12 students to engage in real world problem solving with a strong emphasis on STEM. ExploraVision challenges students to envision and communicate new technology 20 years in the future through collaborative brainstorming and research of current science and technology. Coding and computational thinking are also included in the experience. Working in teams of two to four, students have the opportunity to win up to a $10,000 U.S. Savings Bond (at maturity). The program is also offering great prize packages for the teachers and the school with the largest number of qualified teams. Teachers can learn more about the 2016–2017 competition by watching ExploraVision’s video, hosted by Bill Nye the Science Guy, or visiting the competition website. The deadline for all projects is 2/6. This deadline coincides extremely well with our SDoL STEM Fair in terms of creating one project that could be entered in multiple competitions.
