Transition
We will use this section to keep you up to speed as we transition students from the elementary schools to Greene and from Greene to the junior high.
Thank you to everyone who attended the PTO Meeting this week!. Here is the Slide Show from PTO Presentation by the Junior High Counselors. The presentation was also recorded and posted to the PTO Facebook page.
Your child recently took the CogAT Test (Cognitive Abilities Test). This test measures reasoning and problem solving skills in verbal, non-verbal, and quantitative areas.
You should receive the results in the mail by the end of January. One of the reasons the district administered this test is to place students into advanced math classes at the junior high. The CogAT will be used in combination with scores from MAP and AIR, as well as classroom grades, for junior high math placement using this MATRIX. In the spring, the junior high will look at each student to determine if they are new qualifiers. If your child qualifies, you will receive a letter from Sycamore Junior High with additional information.

Award-winning author Gordon Korman will be visiting E.H. Greene on February 20-21, 2019!
During the months leading up to his visit, students have been busy reading Mr. Korman’s many great books and participating in the author visit reading contest. Be sure to ask your student what they’ve been reading! The PTO is offering an advanced book sale to purchase Korman books at a discounted rate. Students are welcome to bring these books (or other Korman books) back to school for Gordon to sign during his visit in February. There will be a maximum of 3 books per students to be autographed, but feel free to order as many books as you'd like. If you would like to learn more about Gordon Korman or see a summary of any book, please check out his website at www.gordonkorman.com.
Please contact Megan Boni with any questions at meganboni@hotmail.com.
*** Order by Thursday, January 17. Expected delivery date of books is February 1. The author visit reading contest continues until February 8. Please return this to your student’s homeroom teacher by January 17 in an envelope marked: Korman Book Order *** Cash, or checks payable to “E.H. Greene PTO.”

PBIS
We certainly hope you had a great holiday break! We are back in the swing of things and students have had some reminders about our Aviator Expectations. This was a First Friday and teams had some great activities about bullying. Be sure to ask your child about what the team did today!
Before break, we shared a video where a student spoke about the impact PBIS had on his life. This week, our video highlights his mother’s observations about how his outlook and behavior changed as a result of those practices. Please enjoy this parent perspective on PBIS in schools.
