Happy New Year!

Hello Families!

I cannot believe we are into our 2nd week of the new year already! Thank you all so much for the incredibly generous and thoughtful holiday gifts and notes. I am so thankful for each of you and the support you continue to give to your child and also to me. You are your child's first and most important teacher. The ways in which you have modeled the importance of kindness and their education will stay with them always. Thank you so very much. Here are some updates, reminders and sharing of going-on's in our class. Enjoy!

A Peek Inside Our Classroom

Fundations and Word Study

We are working on stretching out words into chunks, or small parts that we know. Right now your child is expanding their knowledge of base words and suffixes. A base word is the part that is left when we "cover up the endings" - like s, es, ed or sometimes -ing. They are also practicing "glued sounds" like -all, -ell,, and -ill. Students should continue to practice their "trick words" each night by clapping out the words sent home in the Fundations parent letter. This letter will be sent home this week. Be on the lookout & be sure to reinforce the trick words at home.

What are we Reading?

Maybe the question should be... What aren't we reading!? Here is a link to our class pic for the week- Be a Friend by Salina Yoon. With the Caldecott winner being announced this week, we are in store for plenty of amazing read-alouds PLUS the zany Mr.Popper continues to make us laugh out loud each day! Your children are book lovers!
