This week we took three class days to complete our math MAP test . Before testing the students were really doing a nice job of identifying angle relationships such as vertical angles, corresponding angles and supplementary angles pairs. We will continue with geometric concepts and end next week with a test. Please encourage your students to spend some time working on IXL. Have a great weekend! Mrs. Seitz
7th Grade Algebra continued working with polynomials. On Monday we reviewed the first half of the chapter. It was a good way to lead into MAPs testing. We complete the spring portion of our math assessment on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Most students made considerable gains in their overall score. On Friday we began factoring more difficult trinomials. We will end the year working with factoring and solving quadratic equations. As this school year winds down I reflect on how much I have enjoyed working with this talented group of seventh grades. They rose to any challenge I placed on them and I loved encouraging them as they explored more difficult and abstract math concepts. I am very excited to teach geometry and look forward to setting even high expectations for this group next year. All grades will be updated and posted to Skyward this weekend. Look for a final emailed progress report during the first part of next week. Have a great weekend and a wonderful summer. I look forward to hearing all the summer stories when we return to class this fall.

Esta semana en Español….
This week we are working with a new set of words and combining them with prior learning. We practiced with translations, sentences in context, readings and a story/comic book that students are reading, acting and translating. We are tackling visual, auditory and kinesthetic learners, while working in teams. We are playing vocabulary games, too. It has been a great week!
Have a great weekend!

This week in U.S History, we started looking into Chapter 18 which focus on Reconstruction. In lesson 1 we looked at the three different reconstruction plans. We talked about why the plans were developed and in the end why the South wanted to use President Johnson’s plan because it was the easiest. We then looked at the assassination of Abraham Lincoln and the effect it had on reconstruction. We then started lesson 2 which looked at how the Republicans who controlled Congress set up a new reconstruction plan for the South. They struggled to compromise with President Johnson so they would just override his veto and pass what they wanted. Next week we will continue to look at the Republicans rebuilding the South. Have a great weekend, thank you for reading our weekly newsletter. Mr. Johnsen

BAND
Band News
The Advanced Band had a great week of classes! Our students have been perfecting the little details needed for a great concert performance such as dynamics and articulations. In band lessons, students performed their ABA music compositions. I was impressed by their creativity! Ask your child to perform it for you!
Please make a note that our Spring Band Concert will be on Tuesday, May 22 at 9:45 AM and 7:00 PM at Yorkville School. Communication of this date with your child’s sports coaches is greatly appreciated!
The annual band trip to Six Flags Great America will be on Tuesday, May 29. We will leave school at 9:30 AM and arrive back to Yorkville at 6:00 PM. Please return the permission slip and $12 by Wednesday, May 23. Students with a season pass only need to turn in a permission slip.
Have a great weekend!
