Monday, April 30th will be Mr. Williams' last day at Penny Road! After serving as our interim principal for the last three months, he will return to retirement. We are so appreciative of his time and service to our school during this period of transition. He has made a tremendous effort to support our teachers and get to know our students! On behalf of all of our Pandas, thank you Mr. Williams!

Volunteer Spotlight

This week's spotlight: Yearbook Editor

We are in need of a yearbook editor for the coming school year! It is a big job but a rewarding one. The students love getting their yearbooks. The editor uses software provided to us by our school picture company Strawbridge Studios. The editor will work with grade level photographers and teachers to gather pictures from events throughout the year and assemble this amazing memoir for the kids.

We are in need of adults and students to make our night a success!


Today, April 27th is the last day to pre-order you admissions, food sales, and raffle tickets for the spring carnival! Click HERE for easy online ordering.

Preordered tickets and wristbands will be sent home in your child’s folder before the event date.

***There will be some food available for purchase the night of the carnival, but we recommend that you preorder what you would like to guarantee availability. ***


As you may have already heard, this year’s silent auction fundraiser is getting an upgrade! Never fear! The auction will still be held on the evening of carnival.

So what’s different?

We are adding an online component that will allow more time for previewing and bidding, give interested family and friends a chance to join in on the fun, and, hopefully, increase the amount of money we raise for our school!

The online auction starts at 8:00am on Tuesday, May 1st and will be open for bidding until midnight on Thursday, May 10th. All privately donated items, as well as our classroom art projects, will be available during this 10-day bidding period.

You may notice that some items, but not all, will include a BUY NOW option. This allows a buyer to purchase a specific item at a predetermined price and remove it from consideration. These winners will be able to pay for their item online.

What’s the same as past carnival auctions?

On Friday, May 11th all bidding information from our online component will be compiled and displayed in the gym during the carnival event. As always, live bidding will begin at 5:00pm and will end promptly at 7:00pm.

Our much anticipated “teacher experiences” will be introduced for bidding at the live event only. These items, designed specifically for our students, will not be included in the online portion. Please note: only adults will be permitted to place bids at the auction.

All winners will be announced at the event following the close of the auction. Winners can pay for/pick up their items at the silent auction check-out table in the gym. Cash, checks and credit card will be accepted. All items must be paid for by Wednesday, May 16 at 12pm (in the school office).

Teacher Appreciation Celebration May 4th-May 10th

Our Hospitality Team has been hard at work planning our Teacher Appreciation celebration!

Here is what we have planned:

Friday, May 4th- Food Truck Friday with Bull City Street Food & Poblanos Tacos and More Thank you all for your tremendous support sponsoring our staff!

Monday, May 7th- Mocktail Monday Light refreshments and drinks provided by the Hospitality Team

Tuesday, May 8th- Tidy Up Tuesday Just in time for spring cleaning! Help your teacher restock classroom cleaning supplies and organizational items. Recommended items: Lysol wipes, Clorox wipes, hand sanitizer, dry erase markers, dry erase cleaner, dry erase board erasers, tissues, magic erasers, goo-gone

Wednesday, May 9th- Wish List Wednesday Students are asked to bring in one item to help restock depleted classroom materials. Most requested items include card stock paper, vibrant color paper, markers, crayons, Crayola supplies, small dry erase boards, gift cards (for colored ink), child size headphones, pencil sharpeners, folders. Gift cards to Stone’s Teacher Store, Staples, A.C. Moore and Amazon are also welcome!

Thursday, May 10th-Thank you Thursday Students are asked to draw a picture or write their teachers a note of thanks.

Yearbooks are Here!

If you have not already received your child's yearbook, you will shortly! A big thank you to this year's editor Denise Rose! She poured her heart into those pages and it is wonderful! If you would like to keep your child's yearbook, please return the $17 payment to school. Checks may be made payable to Strawbridge Studios. If you do not want to pay to keep the yearbook, please return in to your child's classroom teacher!

Panorama Education WCPSS Family Survey

Wake County Public Schools has launched a districtwide family survey to learn more about you and your child’s experiences in our schools. You should have already received an email regarding the survey and survey link. Thank you to the Penny Road Families who have already completed it!

If you have not done so, please take 10-15 minutes to complete the survey between now and May 4th, 2018.

2018-2019 classroom requests due May 4th!

If your child has a specific need that should be considered for classroom placement for the coming school year, please write a letter to our new principal, Mrs. Hoke.

Include in the letter:

1. Your child’s name and grade level for the 2018-19 school year

2. Important considerations about your child to keep in mind when making class lists

3. Teacher qualities that would best meet your child’s need

*Requests will not be honored that list teacher names.

Please turn in all written requests to the office by May 4th. All requests should be sent to the office through the mail or hand delivered by an adult. Requests received after this date will not be considered.

Books and Beyond Program Ends April 30th

The Books and Beyond program officially ends on April 30, 2018. Recording sheets will be collected through May 1, 2018. No additional sheets will be collected after to ensure the committee completes the work for yearend recognition. Please make sure your avid readers continue to submit their sheets until then.

Families may plan to attend our Books and Beyond Celebration on Friday, May 18th in the gym. Kindergarten students will be recognized beginning at 9:30 am and First grade students will be recognized at 10:00 am.

Order your school supplies for the coming school year!

If you have never done this before, you will be amazed at how easy it is! Our Penny Road teachers have generated the lists! Simply click the link below to order. You have the option to add art supplies that Mrs. Gardner has requested and you may even donate funds so that the school is able to order supplies for children in need. The deadline to order your child's school supplies for the 2018-2019 school year is June 30th!
