Agyrophobia
The Fear of Crossing the Street
Basic Information
Definition: The fear of crossing roads, highways, or roads themselves.
Causes: If a traumatic road accident happens to the sufferer or someone they know
Symptoms: Causes anxiety, shortness of breath, and sweating. In extreme cases the sufferer may become frozen with fear.
Treatments: Anti-anxiety drugs and or hypnotherapy/ psychotherapy.
Interesting Facts
- Some sufferers may become afraid after just hearing the name of a street
- The name comes from the Greek gyrus meaning turning or whirling (movement of traffic)
