The Central Scoop

August 13, 2021

From the Principal's Desk...

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! We are glad that you are joining us as we embark on an exciting year of teaching and learning at Central School. We look forward to bringing our Central School Family back together by having all students on campus.

I am excited about all that this new school year has to offer and look forward to working collectively as a Central School community to ensure that we provide our students with the best educational experience possible. We look forward to partnering with you as we focus on your children's overall academic growth and social/emotional development.

While we are excited to return to a more normal school year, the safety and health of our students is still our number one priority. Our D39 Board of Education will be discussing mitigation measures at the Committee of the Whole meeting next week. Next week's Central Scoop will outline the health and safety protocols that the Board of Education will finalize on August 18th.

Overall, I am confident that together we will support each other in creating a safe, engaging and fun learning environment for our Central Foxes! Our staff cannot wait to meet and reunite with all of you! Please continue to enjoy these last remaining days of summer. See below for important updates for this coming school year. I will be sending all families a weekly Central Scoop each Friday.

With Warm Regards,

~ Becky

Meet Assistant Principal Holly Harper-Kelly

I am thrilled to become the newest Assistant Principal at Central Elementary! I look forward to working with all of you and being a part of a thriving, active school community. I love forming partnerships with students and their families to ensure every student grows and shares their uniqueness every day in our classrooms.

I have my Bachelor’s degree in journalism from Northern Illinois University. I worked as a reporter in Peoria for a while but felt it wasn’t “filling my bucket”. I moved to the Chicagoland area, spent time volunteering in a 4th grade classroom and found my love and passion! I have a Master’s degree from National-Louis University, taught for 12 years at all different levels and subject areas and then pursued my Education Specialist degree in Administrative Leadership, also from National-Louis. My administrative experience includes being the Director of Bilingual Services for West Northfield School District 31 for five years and most recently, the Principal of Hawthorne Early Learning Center in Wheeling School District 21. I loved my time as an Early Childhood Principal but was excited about the opportunity to get back to my first love of K-4 students.

Outside of work, I enjoy paddleboarding, yoga, reading and I’m attempting to get back to running after a knee injury sidelined me for a bit! I have a daughter who will be a Freshman this Fall at Colorado State in Ft. Collins and a son who will be a Sophomore in high school. I can’t wait to start getting to know all of you and becoming a part of the Central Fox Family! Thank you for sharing your students with me and I look forward to the celebrations ahead!

Snack is Back!

Student are allowed to bring a snack to school this year. To ensure a safe learning environment for every student in our schools, we are limiting classroom snacks to fruits and vegetables only. The items brought to school can be cut up and placed in baggies/containers from your home, or be pre-packaged bags of apples, carrots, etc. as we often see sold in bulk. Please avoid those that are packaged with dips or items that require the labeling of contents. We prefer fresh fruits and vegetables. If there is an ingredient list, it really doesn’t follow the guidelines. Thank you, in advance, for supporting our efforts to keep Central School safe for every child.

From the Nurse's Office

Make sure all of your health forms are ready to be turned into our nurse, Nicole Meyer. Be sure to read Nurse Meyer's Back to School Health Letter Below. Please contact her at meyern@wilmette39.org with any questions starting August 18th.
