Blubber Experiment
Blubber Experiment
We wanted to see how blubber helps our artic friends stay warm, so we created a blubber glove! We tested it in icy water and were amazed that it worked!
What's a blubber glove you ask? Just some Crisco smooshed between two Ziploc bags. :)
Huddle up!
This week...
In Reading we worked a lot on nonfiction and fiction again, as we learned all about more artic animals. We also started to introduce the idea of researching and understanding topics through a variety of resources. What can we read and learn from websites, books, etc.
Keep working on those Book Bags! These are cold reads, I am not reviewing these books with your child before they go home. Expect to guide a little bit the first time.
In Math we continued with subtraction and addition. We also reviewed measurement and started recognizing different qualities/attributes and sorted based on what we found. We absolutely love math story problems and students are asking for me to give them story problems during WOW time! Love it!
In Writing we finished our polar bear books, got to make a new book of our choosing, and will start our walrus books tomorrow! Just like our polar bear books, students will get to decide if they want to write a fiction or non-fiction book.
New sight words this week: too, they, with, where
We had so much fun on Wednesday celebrating Global School Play Day! I can't tell you how many times I heard "This is the best day ever!". There were no stations, structure, or any teacher led moments. The kiddos simply got to play all afternoon and they were in heaven. I think we all forget just how much they learn while playing! They had to problem solve, learn new games, take turns, practice patience, share, read directions, write/create cards, and so much more!
