Bike Safety
Keeping kids safe is our priority, and that includes traveling to and from school. We know lots of
kids ride their bikes and that’s great. Here are some important bike safety tips we hope you will
share with your child. This includes the importance of always wearing a helmet. In addition, please remind your child to stop, get off their bike, and walk it across all intersections

News From Mrs. Leeper
Hello Families!
I hope that your child’s year is off to a great start. I know things are sure rollin’ around here. Here are just a few reminders this week.
1. Wednesday, September 11th is our first Wylie Way Day. It is a day of character learning and relationship building. We will be dressing western, with boots, cowboy hats, bandanas, belt buckles, whatever you feel will reflect that your student is “Riding for the Brand”. See the flyer below for more details. The only exceptions are NO pretend weapons or spurs please. We are excited for a fun day!
2. Watch Dog Dads – If you are interested in signing up to be a Watch Dog with your student and you did not attend the Kick-off Night, please complete the registration form found below and email to akinwatchdogs@gmail.com. The parent volunteer has been working on the schedule and wants to make sure she has given as many dads as possible the opportunity for a date. Please submit your registration by October 4th, as she will be opening the calendar up for dads wanting a second day soon after this date.
Thank you for all of your support. We love and appreciate our Akin families.
Notes From Nurse Kristi
Annual vision and hearing screening will begin Tuesday September 3rd and will last several weeks. Texas state law requires all Kindergarten, 1st, and 3rd graders to be screened as well as any student new to Wylie ISD. If your student wears glasses, please make sure that he/she has his/her glasses at school each day. Following the screening, I will communicate with parents/guardians if your student’s screening indicates a need for further evaluation by a physician or other health care provider. If you do not wish for your student to participate in the mandated school screening, a physician-signed vision and hearing evaluation must be submitted. Please call if you have any questions or concerns.
