From Mr. Lucita

First marching performance arrived last week in a flurry of activities and during a short week! Getting to perform for the first time for our home crowd was absolutely awesome! Tons of fans, excitement, and support! It felt like Friday Night Lights!

This week we are looking forward to diving deeper into the show as we get closer to our very first marching contest! BOA Austin is 3 weeks away and will be here before we know it!

The regular activities at the band hall are starting to settle into place, such as private lessons. We have many students enrolled in private lessons however there is always room for more. Nothing beats that one-on-one time with a professional getting to focus on the exact areas of need. If you would like to sign your student up for private lessons please contact the band hall and we will send you everything you need.

Our parent volunteers have been doing an incredible job finishing up the final touches of the uniforms, working on props, publishing the awesome program that was sold at the football game, helping move all of the percussion equipment on and off the field, feeding our students, plus countless other items. Thank you, parents, for working so hard to help our students succeed!

Looking forward to another awesome week with our Jaguar Band as “Our Journey” continues!

First annual Jaguar Jog 5K/10K!

We are only 2 weeks away from our inaugural Jaguar Jog on Saturday, September 21st!!!

Please remember to sign up to run, walk or volunteer as soon as possible!!

We still have lots of volunteer spots open, please consider helping out if you can.

We would LOVE to see all our band kids and parents either in the race OR helping out as a volunteer!!!

Competition Meal Plan Deadline Extended to 9/21

Competition Meal deadline has been extended because we are trying to get as many kids on this meal plan as possible.

This plan offers 2 meals each competition day (lunch and dinner) and is highly recommended by Mr. Lucita. Please know that it is quite common for schedules to change on competition days; making it very difficult to get food to your student at the right times on those days. Please visit https://www.johnsonbands.com/shop before September 21st to purchase your meal plan(s).

Game Day Meals

THANK YOU to the volunteers who helped with game day meals last week! We still have a few slots available if you are able to help out for future games.

Want to help out our Johnson Jaguar Band and Color Guard for Game Day meals? Yay! If you can pick up meals from local restaurants (Will be called and paid for) or help to serve, please sign up below. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, older siblings and friends are welcome too! If you don't have a background check filed with Hays as a volunteer, please click below to get it started. The times are subject to change as I figure out when the kids need to be fed.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

Big picture

Sign-Making Party and Competition Information for Send Offs!

Meet us on Tuesday, 9/10 at 5:00 pm in the band hall if you would like to join us in making posters for competition send-offs!

The posters can be anything you’d like... your child’s name, nickname, an instrument, Jags or a big head. The kids don’t care what’s on them as long as we’re there to cheer them on when they leave!

You don't have to make a poster to cheer them on when they drive by! Just join in on the cheering as we send-off the Jaguar band on our competition days! The kids love seeing a crowd cheering them on as they head to competitions! The send-off party will take place in front of Dahlstrom. The times will vary depending on when they leave. Please stay in tune as we will communicate specific times closer to the dates.

So please join us in the band hall on 9/10 for the Jaguar Band sign-making party! We will have some supplies there but feel free to bring your poster boards, glue, tape, markers, stickers and anything you’d like to use. Walmart even has a poster board with a gold border!

If you didn't order a BIG HEAD with your photos but would like to make one, you can pick one up from Walmart in Kyle. Items needed to create your own "big head":

  • 20 x 30 poster/picture from Walmart in Kyle (if ordered in store it can be ready in an hour) it’s $20.42 with tax. That’s the big one, get any size you’d like.
  • Foam board
  • Yard stick
  • Hot glue gun... we’ll have a couple
  • E6000 glue —this is specific
  • X-acto knife... we’ll have a couple there

Hope to see you on Tuesday!

"Band Siblings" gift exchange starts this week!

Band Siblings were announced last week! Friendly reminder that this is a Band run program that partners up incoming freshman with an upperclassman in the band program. The older student offers encouragement, support, and advice on how to best navigate membership in the Jaguar Band. Traditionally, on game days or other special occasions, the “siblings” exchange some type of small gift. These are not elaborate gifts! An ice-cold drink, candy, etc are all nice gestures! Gift exchanges will start THIS WEEK, Friday, Sept. 13th!

Helpful Reminders For Game Days

  • Always pack/store uniform parts back in ONE bag so that it is ready for the next game or competition
  • Short black socks are required
  • Black belt is required
  • Students should pack (and be encouraged to use) deodorant. Game days are long and hot!
  • Label caps, shoes (initials on the label on the inside of shoes), shirts, shorts, belts (anything they are changing in to and out of). If we find these items we have no way of knowing who to return them to. With so many kids changing and carrying their clothes around, stuff inevitably gets dropped or left behind. Paint pens (these come in all colors including silver or gold which can be seen on black) or Sharpie laundry markers work best for this. Any other pen or marker will rub off.

While you might see some things that do not apply to your student, having too much information may be better than not having enough!
