Hallinan Elementary
Hawk Squawk Newsletter 3/9/23
Principal's Message
Dear Hallinan Families,
I am so delighted to be able to share the 5th Grade Performance, under the direction of our amazing music teacher Mr Haynor, of Dig It, a musical tale of ancient civilizations. The play starts in Ethiopia, where two archeologists stumble upon a talking skeleton named Lucy. From there, 5th graders presented fun scenes from Mesopotamia, Egypt, Asia, Greece, Rome and even the future! If you've never seen dancing skeletons, mummies and breakdancing farmers before, you won't want to miss this video!
This performance was a great example of COOPERATION - our character trait this month! Mr Haynor, 5th grade teachers Mrs Miller, Mrs Musgrove and Mr Wulff, 5th grade students and multiple parent volunteers contributed to the success of this evening. Kindergarten through 4th grade students were able to watch the dress rehearsal last Thursday afternoon.
I hope you enjoy it!

New Carnival Date!
Our amazing carnival team is now planning the carnival for Wednesday, May 31st.
The plan is to have one peice of group art per classroom available to view and bid on in the gym during the auction. Please read below to know more on that.
Art Auction Fundraiser
While the larger auction was canceled, we are happy to announce a smaller art auction will be moving forward! This art auction fundraiser will raise money for the fifth-grade celebration team. But all kids, in all grades, will be enriched by creating a single piece of group art with their fellow classmates. Each class will have a beautiful piece of art auctioned off. More details about this are to come.
The following classes still need volunteers to participate - are you available to help:
4th - Fanz
4th - Wetzel
5th - Miller
5th - Musgrove

Art Literacy
In Art Literacy this month students will get to try rock painting as they learn a little about Stone Age art from 25,000 BCE to 2,000 BCE. Stone Age artists created cave paintings, sculptures and engravings of stylized symbols of animals and people that represented supernatural and magic powers and were of cultural significance to Stone Age tribes. See the photo below for a great example!
