Galileo Galilei
1564 -1642
Galileo was born February 15, 1564 in Pisa, Italy. He passed away January 8, 1642 in Tuscany, Italy.
Before Fame
In Florence, Italy Galileo began his education at the Camaldolese Monastery. In the beginning of education, Galileo wanted to become a doctor. He went to study medicine at the University of Pisa in 1581. When Galileo was 21 he got a teaching job. In 1592, Galileo moved to the University of Padua, where he permitted to experiment.
Improving the Telescope
Galileo is known for improving the telescope to be used to study the planets and stars.

- Galileo was put in prison for heresy to the Catholic Church. He was later put in life house arrest but still continued his career and writing.
- Galileo published the first scientific paper based on observations made through a telescope in 1610. It was called, ¨The Starry Messenger.¨
- In later years the Catholic Church changed their views on Galileo and stated that they regretted how Galileo was treated.
- Galileo was married and was a father to 3 children: Maria Celeste, Livia Galile, and Vincenzo Gamba.
