West Point El. Parent Update
Week of March 20, 2023
Dear West Point Families,
We hope you enjoyed the beautiful weekend and the extra time with your families. Our teachers participated in professional development that focused on the latest science and research on reading instruction. It was a valuable professional development day for them, and we appreciate the district scheduling time for teachers to receive important training throughout the year.
We would also like to wish the casts of Mary Poppins, Jr. good luck this week! They will be performing this Thursday - Saturday.
Here are three important things to know for the coming week. We hope you have a great week!
- Our PTA's "Couch Potato Fundraiser" begins this week and runs through March 31. Please see additional information below.
- This Tuesday, March 21, students across Davis School District are showing support for World Down Syndrome Day by wearing mismatched socks to school. We hope your students will participate as well!
- Please complete and return your students' demographic registration forms to school by this Friday, March 24.
Every day is a great day to be a Wildcat!
Sincerely,
Marjorie Conrad and Michelle Yoho
Principal and Assistant Principal, West Point Elementary

Mobile Fingerprinting at West Point Elementary
We have set up another mobile fingerprinting day at our school. We still have slots open! This is a GREAT opportunity to get your background check done without driving to Farmington to complete the process. We would LOVE to have all slots filled. This will be the last mobile fingerprinting day this year.

Reinforcing School Rules and Expectations
We hope your students can tell you our basic school rules and expectations if you were to ask because we review them all year long. It is our goal that everyone feels safe, both physically and emotionally, so they can learn and thrive.
We would like to ask parents and guardians to please have a conversation with your students as well about why we have these rules and what it looks like when we are following them. We like to remind students about our KHFOOTY rule when teaching physical safety (Keep Hands Feet and Other Objects to Yourself). Another important conversation is about respect, which includes the way we treat others. The article below has excellent suggestions for how parents can teach and encourage students to be respectful. We hope you find it to be a helpful resource!
Thank you for your support!

Health Plans - Information Update
The Utah Nurse Practice Act was recently updated. School Nurses are now required to have medical confirmation of a student’s medical condition before writing and/or maintaining an Individualized Health Care Plan (IHCP). Please check your mydsd account to view your students IHCP. To continue providing your child with an IHCP, we kindly request that you provide the school with documentation that confirms your child's medical condition. This can be in the form of a doctor’s note, hospital discharge summary, Asthma Action Plan, Diabetes Medication Management Order, Seizure Medication Management Order, or Allergy Action Plan. Please either email the forms to our school nurse at nfairchild@dsdmail.net, bring them into the school, or have them faxed directly to the school 801-402-2751.
If the school does not receive the required documentation by the end August 2023, IHCP's without documentation will be inactivated. This means that your child’s healthcare needs will no longer be monitored by the school nurse, and we will not be able to provide the necessary support and care to ensure their safety and well-being during school hours. If you have previously brought in forms to our nurse or your student does not need an IHCP, please disregard. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. Please direct all questions to Nanette Fairchild RN 801-317-5094.
