Bay Principal's Newsletter
From the Principal:
I hope all of the Bay students and families had a nice Thanksgiving break. It's always nice to have a week to rest and have more time to do the things we love. I have so much gratitude for being a part of the Bay community. I have learned so much about San Lorenzo and have had the pleasure of getting to know so many students and families, and it hasn't even been 100 days yet! With your partnership, it will surely continue to be an amazing 2023-24 school year 😃
New Social Emotional Program: Soul Shoppe
This year Bay is following the other elementary schools in SLZUSD and adopting the Soul Shoppe curriculum to support our students' social emotional growth and conflict resolution skills. The mission of Soul Shoppe is to create safe learning environments and build positive school cultures filled with compassion and connection so all students feel a sense of belonging in the community. This month all TK-5 students had their first Soul Shoppe lesson from the consultant, Ms. Monica, called "Feeling Better." Be sure to ask your child what they learned about having a "leaky balloon" and strategies they could do to empty it instead of leaking. There is also a Virtual Family Room with free videos and resources for parents - see attached flyer!
SLZUSD does have a dress code policy. While some aspects of the policy may not seem applicable to elementary students, it is important to note that students should not be wearing clothing/hats that bear drug, alcohol or tobacco references and clothing should cover up undergarments (underwear and bras). We do not shame or punish students in violation of the dress code policy, but we may ask them to change their shirt, hat, etc.. so they can get back to their classroom for learning.
