The Cabbage Tree
CLASSIFICATION
The Cabbage Tree is a Balinese plant. Despite it's name, it doesn't grow cabbages. It's botanical name is Cordyline australis.
APPEARANCE
The Cordyline australis has a cork like trunk which is grey. The bark is very tough. It can grow really tall- between 12-20m. Between November and January the tree blooms with white strong scented flowers what attracts bees.
HABITAT
The Cordyline australis are common throughout farmlands, open places, wetlands and scrublands of the north and south islands but are rare on stewart island and are found up to 800 metres above sea level.
USES
The leaves are woven into baskets, sandles, rope, rain capes and other items and are also made into tea to cure diarrhoea and dysentery.
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, the Cordyline australis is a tall, tough and blooming plant that is very useful. And found in many of parts of Indonesia.
