April Updates 2013

Welcome to the April edition of the SC DEN News. This monthly publication comes to you from Jessica Donaldson and Karen Ogen, two of your Discovery Education Leadership Committee members, in an effort to keep our South Carolina Discovery STAR educators more up to date with what is happening with both the South Carolina DEN and the greater DEN community. If you have any events to report, questions about the DEN, or if you need to know anything about Discovery resources or how to get more involved with the SC DEN, please contact either of us or any of your SC DEN Leadership Team representatives listed below.

Welcome to our newest SC STARs!

DEN Spring VirtCon: April 20th, 2013

Combining the Best of Virtual and Face-to-Face Events

The DEN Spring Virtual Conference is a free professional development event for educators to learn about the most effective ways to integrate digital media into their instructional practices. It is unique because of its blended environment. The sessions will be broadcast online, but you can attend either from your own home or at one of the many face-to- face (F2F) events around the world. By attending an event in your area, you get that buzz that can only be experienced by being face to face with others.

The SC Leadership Council has one confirmed event in Lexington, and one in the works for Berkeley County (watch your email for more information). If you cannot attend in-person, register to attend this FREE event online.

STARs on Stage!

Are you presenting at a conference? Tell us about it! Members of the Social Media Team across the nation have been hard at work to find a way to collect and share information about our STARs facilitating sessions at conferences. We've created a form for you to fill out so that your name can be added to our directory. Complete the form and let us brag about you!

Heading to a conference and want to support fellow STARs? Then check out our updated STARs on Stage page.

COOL TOOL: Evernote

Evernote makes it easy to remember things big and small from your everyday life using your computer, phone, tablet and the web. Apps are available for both Android and Apple tablets, making sharing notes or ideas with your students and colleagues EASY.

Seamlessly create a note online, edit on your smartphone, and add information from your tablet. Email notes to someone, or share entire notebooks with your team. Who needs a flash drive? Load PDF files or your PPT presentation directly into a note, or store URLs and video links for your next lesson. Other ideas for Evernote? How about online portfolios and resumes? Need more inspiration? Check out the Evernote blogs, or checkout how one Library Media Specialist started using Evernote with students.

Make sure you check out the DEN Blogs to keep up to date with everything DEN in-between our monthly publications!
