Knightly Update August 15, 2021
ACP High School - Edition Vol 1 Issue 6
Good day. I hope you are all making plans to attend Wednesday's Meet-the-Teacher night to learn about your child's classes and meet their instructors. Information about Wednesday's event is included again in this week's update. Please know that this event is structured and not a drop-in occasion. If you have any questions, please contact the office.
In addition to Wednesday's Meet-the-Teacher, we are also hosting our Student Pool Party on Friday. Details about Friday's party are also included again in this week's update. Please know that due to Covid-19 restrictions, we are forced to limit attendance to the first 800 guests. I apologize that we cannot accommodate all of our students, but situations simply dictate certain parameters. Again, if you have any questions about Friday's party or have questions on what we request students bring, please call the office. I want to thank our General Boosters in advance for all they have done to host this event.
Mid-quarter grades will be posted on Friday. If you have yet to review your child's academic progress, please take the time to do so via the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. If you have any questions about your child's progress, please contact the appropriate instructor(s) or your child's counselor. Remember, these grades indicate your child's progress up to this point of the year and will not be posted on their high school transcript.
We have our last free dress day of the month on Monday. As shared previously, free dress days benefit a school organization and students that choose to participate will need to pay the $2 participation fee. If this causes any concern for your child, please contact me. Thank you.
I hope you have a very nice week. If you missed Monday's New Family Transition Meeting, you can access the presentation and provided documents by clicking here. As always, please contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Have a great week. Go, KNIGHTS!!
Rob Bickes
Principal

Congratulations to senior Sohani Sandhu and junior Diya Nath for being selected to the Teen Advisory Board for Arizona Science Center. They were selected from over 2500 applicants.
Arizona Science Center’s Teen Advisory Board works closely with the Center’s leadership team to develop, test, and implement content, programs, and special events targeted to teens ages 12-18. Meet the Teacher - August 18 - 6:00 PM
The purpose of the evening is for each of your child's teachers to give you a brief overview of the curriculum, review what your child will be studying, and the materials teachers and students will be using in order to achieve our academic goals.
There will not be a lot of time for individual questions, but parents or students may leave their phone numbers and email addresses, and our instructors will follow-up as appropriate. We hope to see you there!

Class of 2022 Cap & Gown Information
Our Josten's representative put this information together in hopes that it will answer most of the questions families might have.
As a reminder, seniors can turn in their orders on Wednesday, August 18th during lunch or on Wednesday evening at our Meet-the-Teacher Night. Jostens representatives will be collecting order forms in our school's cafeteria both at lunch and at Meet-the-Teacher.

Student Safety Reminders
In addition, please monitor your speed if you use Mustang Rd. to come to the campus. Remember that the speed limit by Ryan Elementary is 25 miles per hour unless otherwise posted (i.e. when school is in session, it is 15 miles per hour). Please be aware of students crossing Mustang Rd. at the designated school zone. Again, your attention to this is very much appreciated.
Finally, when dropping your child off in the morning, please do not allow your child to exit the vehicle from the far east lane (i.e. left lane) on the east side of the campus. If you are in the left lane, please drop your child off on the southern end of the property so they can walk to the crosswalk and safely get across the road to the school. We want to eliminate students darting in and out of moving traffic in the morning.
Thank you for helping to ensure the safety of every individual on our campus.

Emergency Relief Funds Virtual Meeting
The Chandler Unified School District has received funding from the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER III) Fund grants administered through the Arizona Department of Education. These emergency relief funds are allocated to school districts to address the impact of COVID-19 on elementary and secondary schools. CUSD will be gathering input from our community regarding how these funds can best be utilized to accelerate and enrich learning and increase learning opportunities.
On August 30th from 6 – 7 pm, CUSD will be hosting a virtual community roundtable to gather input and to guide our ESSER III Plan. During this roundtable you will have the opportunity to review CUSD priorities and provide feedback. CUSD values the voice of our community, and we encourage you to join us. If you would like to attend, please click here to register for the CUSD ESSER III Virtual Community Round Table. We will be reaching out to all of our participants approximately one week from the event with the necessary details.

Help Us Design Our School's Courtyard
Please remember, due to the amount of infrastructure under the courtyard area, grass, trees, and bushes are not viable options. However, all ideas will be reviewed and considered. Final design options will be shared with the school community and voted on by the student population.
Thank you for helping to make our school's courtyard special.

Free Dress Day - August 16th
From time-to-time, various clubs and organizations will sponsor a free dress day during the school year. Students may choose to participate ($2) and wear non-uniform attire to school on days announced as free dress. On “free dress” days students will be expected to keep themselves well groomed and neatly dressed at all times. Any form of dress which is considered contrary to good hygiene or which is distractive or disruptive in appearance and detrimental to the purpose or conduct of the school will not be permitted. Since fashions and name designations for wearing apparel change frequently, the administration, with the advice and counsel of police, faculty, students, and parents, may provide an interpretation of garments that are questionable.
The dress code is in compliance with Arizona Revised Statutes § 15-342.22
Clothing or hairstyles that are detrimental to one’s health and safety or the health and safety of others are not permitted.
Clothing shall be modest, clean and appropriate for school wear.
Students shall not wear: tank tops, halter tops, garments with spaghetti straps, strapless garments, and fishnet stockings. Garments that are “see-through,” cut low, or expose one’s midriff are not acceptable. Sleeveless garments must extend to the end of the shoulders and fit closely under the arms. Clothing should have adequate coverage to allow a full range of motion movement without skin or undergarments showing. Undergarments must not be visible. Clothing must cover the entire buttocks and extend to a reasonable length to ensure modesty
Students will be required to remove sunglasses while inside the buildings.
Footwear must be worn for good health safety. Students cannot wear flip-flops or slippers on campus.
Monogrammed shirts that advertise illegal substances for minors are not allowed (i.e. cigarettes, liquor of any kind, drugs, and lewd or sexually suggestive messages). Garments identified as gang related by school administration and/or local police departments are not permitted in school.
Outer garments worn over prohibited items do not necessarily make these garments acceptable. Visible undergarment are prohibited.
Bandannas, hairnets, and other head coverings will not be allowed on campus at any time.
Chains, hanging belts, and spiked bracelets/necklaces/earrings are not allowed on campus.
All school personnel have the responsibility and right to enforce all school rules, including regular and “free dress” guidelines. Students inappropriately dressed for school will remedy the situation before returning to class.
The school administration retains the final discretion in determining if a garment, accessory or appearance compiles with the dress code. Repeated violations of the dress standard may result in appropriate disciplinary action, including being suspended from school.

Please Make a Tax Credit Donation
If you are able to make your tax contributions early in the year, your donation would be greatly appreciated and give us a jump start on some of our essential extracurricular activities. We have set a goal to collect approximately $50.00 per family for a total of $57,500.00 and hope that you will be willing to help us meet our goal. Thank you for supporting your child and our school!
Tax Credit Basics…
A tax credit donation is a full refund, not a deduction. Contributions eligible for a tax credit are donated directly to schools, not to the state or school district. To participate or learn more, follow the link listed below to donate online or you can complete the enclosed form and submit your contribution at your convenience.
http://www.cusd80.com/taxcredit
Arizona Law ARS 43-1089.01 enables taxpayers a tax credit contribution of up to $400.00 per year if filing status is “Married, filing Joint Return;” $200.00 per calendar year if filing status is “Single of Head of Household;” and $200 per calendar year if filing status is “Married filing separate returns.” These contributions fund extracurricular activities in public schools and greatly impact our school community and our students.
