Explore the Sounds of Space
1. Listen to these space made sounds from light and radio waves in space! (Bonus! Audio files of historic astronauts and space missions!) Find at least five (you can download more) that you find interesting, download and save them onto the desktop:

2. Garage Band Introduction:
- Instructions for SET-UP:
- Open Garage Band >File>Empty Project>Choose
- Select >Software Instrument > Create
- For now let’s close the “Keyboard” (upper left corner, click Red x-(see image below))
- In the upper left corner of Garage Band screen there is a square with a box in it that says “Library” (see image below) when your mouse hovers over it- press it to close your instrument library
- Now we’ve got a clean workspace - let’s create
- Click and drag the upper gray bar of your workspace to move it and reveal your desktop
- Drag one of your sound samples from your desktop onto your workspace

3. Sound Editing in Garage Band
- Shortening Your Clip- (Make sure the clip you wish to edit is selected) Bring your mouse to the middle of the far right edge of your clip (see image below) until it turns into two triangles pointing away from each other. Drag it to the left to shorten.
- Looping Your Clip- (Make sure the clip you wish to edit is selected) Bring your mouse to the upper right corner of your clip until you see a circular arrow. (see image below) Click and drag from that corner to repeat your clip for as many times as you wish.
- Splitting Your Clip- (Make sure the clip you wish to edit is selected) Drag the "playhead" (the line that moves along your clip when you play your song) to the point you wish to split and either press "Command and T" or go to Edit>Split Clips Region at Playhead. (see image below)

4. Adjusting Volume Levels
- Drag in another clip from your desktop and drop it below your last track where you wish it to come in (see image below)
- To adjust the level of each individual track, slide the volume slide to the left of each track (see image below)
- To fade a track in and out gradually, select the "Show/Hide Automation Button" and double click and drag on the line to create dynamic volume shifts (see image below)

5. Build Your Track
- Layer in your third and fourth (or more) sound clips
- Adjust their lengths to sample each sound
- Work with looping them and changing their audio levels

6. Adding Instrumental Loops
- Now that you have made your own beats and loops from space sounds, experiment with some instrumental beats. Click on the loops button (see image below)
- Select which button represents the feel or instrument you wish. We'll pick beats. (see image below)
- Click on each loop and try dragging each one into your song (see image below)
- Experiment with weaving the beats of space into the instrumental beats

Experiment with starting simple. Then begin building to multiple layered tracks towards the middle of your song.

- Share>Export Song to Disk (see image below)
- Title Your Song and Select Desktop as the location of where to save (see image below)
- Hit EXPORT!
- Find the song on your desktop and share it with the UNIVERSE!!!!
