News From Mr. Papes
Alto Families,
As we wrap up our 10th week of school, I am so thankful for the continued efforts or our outstanding students, parents, and staff! This week, we did face a hurdle with the need to quarantine some of our students due to a positive COVID-19 case. While difficult and challenging, the response from our families and staff to continue our support of student learning away from school has been incredible. It is through this teamwork and collaboration that we will continue to make this a great school year regardless of the obstacles we may face. Thanks again for your partnership, patience and support!
Half Day on October 28th
Wednesday, October 28th will be half day for students. Our dismissal will run from 11:35-11:55 AM. During the afternoon hours, our dedicated teaching staff will be collaborating with colleagues to analyze student data and instructional practices to best meet the unique needs of all students.
PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports)
Our PBIS Building Leadership Team meets each month to make decisions that enhance our school culture and adapt practices throughout the building. This team includes representatives from each grade level. In celebration of our students’ All STAR (Safe, Thoughtful, Accountable, Respectful) behaviors, we have a celebration at the end of each month. In September, we had a socially distanced dance party with loud music outside. Next week, we will have a “Drop Everything and Draw” celebration. In November, we will celebrate with an extra recess. At the end of each week, we have a golden ticket drawing. Earning a golden ticket is like receiving a compliment. Students have the option to enter these into the school-wide drawing each week. If they are chosen, they can pick out a prize. It is a fun way to end each week!
Halloween
We are excited to still be offering Halloween events on Friday, October 30th. While plans will be different from past years, it still promises to be a memorable experience for our students. Classes will be having special parties or activities on Friday. Unfortunately, there will not be a parade this year. Also, we will continue with visitor restrictions and parents will not be allowed to attend the events, unfortunately. We’ll be sure to get many pictures to share with you! Please note: Toy weapons, blood and gore are not allowed with costumes at school.
I always enjoy hearing from you and appreciate your feedback. Please contact me with any questions you may have.
Have a great weekend!
Paul Papes

Music Notes!
Our Kindergarten through Second Graders are singing some seasonal songs. They are learning or reviewing parts to songs - verse and refrain along with melodies going up, down or staying the same.
Our Third through Fifth Graders are learning to sing the Tallis Canon with our hand signals. It's a musical language. The children are seeing and hearing patterns in this piece and relating it to other songs we know.
Our Second through Fourth graders will be making musical maps of our song experiences. Our Fifth graders are writing the rhythmic musical notation of "Skip to My Lou" and reading the notes.
So happy to be at school and learning with the children!
Keep a Song in Your Heart and Mind!
