What's Happening in 4th Grade!

March 11, 2014

Math

We are wrapping up division this week. Students continue to become more proficient using different division strategies. As with multiplication, students will need to choose a division strategy to consistently use so they can be accurate when solving division problems. We also spent time understanding the relationship between multiplication and division.

We will begin learning about fractions on Monday!

Social Studies

Fourth graders are well into their Geographical Me projects! Students are creating presentations using imovie, prezi, and google. The presentations will share how their own lives are influenced by geography. Some students chose to present about their current home, while others chose a place they used to live. They are evaluating and synthesizing information, as well as trouble shooting and problem solving as they learn to use new presentation tools. The results of their hard work will be on display during Community Night!

Community Night - March 20!

Building Community with Contagious Curiosity & Creativity through Wonder. We want our students to grow in their understanding of being connected to our world through many relationships--with people, with our environment, with our local community, and across the globe. We encourage families and the community to come see our students' products. Come and be a part of this Community Night between 5:30-7:30 pm to support our students, socialize with friends, and enjoy local foods!

Pennies for Patients - March 13-27

Leadership Club is beginning another fundraiser! It’s called Pennies for Patients and we are raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society again this year. For two weeks, March 13-27, students are encouraged to bring in spare change from home to put in the collection box for your class.

Your child will receive a letter and a yellow coin box. The yellow coin boxes are NOT FOR DOOR TO DOOR COLLECTING. They are just a fun way for students to transport coins from home to school. Students don’t have to use them if they don’t want to. A baggie works just as well.

LLS will use our donations to help fund research to find a cure for blood cancers, as well as for financial assistance for people undergoing treatment. Please search for spare change in your homes, purses, and pockets so your child can help others facing these challenges to live better and longer.

Thank you for your support!
