Early Life
Sissy Spacek was born on Christmas Day, 1949 in Quitman, Texas. She was born Mary Elizabeth Spacek. She made her first stage appearance at age 6, singing and dancing in a local talent show. She was crowned homecoming queen during her time at Quitman High School. She moved to New York City to pursue her dreams of a singing career in 1967. She lived with her cousin while there.

After appearing as an extra in Trash (1970), a film produced in Andy Warhol's factory, she made her bona fide film debut as a teenager abducted by a white slavery ring in the Lee Marvin thriller Prime Cut (1972). It was while working on the film (Badlands) that Spacek met her future husband Jack Fisk. They married in 1974 and Fisk helped Spacek land her breakthrough role in Brian de Palma's teen horror classic Carrie (1976). She earned her first Academy Award nomination for best actress and instant cult status.

In the late 80s, Fisk and Spacek took a lengthy break from filmmaking, retreating to their Virginia farm to spend time with their two daughters, Schuyler and Madison.
