Happy Easter

Holy Week is upon us. Holy Week is most definitely a very sacred time of the year, for it is now that we will commemorate and remember the last week of Jesus' life on this earth. These are the days leading up to the great Easter Feast. Our Lenten journey is about to come to an end, but this coming week is extremely important. The greatest focus of the week is the Passion (suffering) and Resurrection of Jesus Christ and the events that led up to it.

Although we are not together to celebrate Holy Week, here are some ways you and your family can celebrate together:

Palm Sunday

On Palm Sunday, Jesus entered Jerusalem with his disciples riding on a borrowed donkey. He rode down the streets while people shouted “Hosanna!”

Ask these reflection questions:

  • Why was it important that Jesus came on a donkey?
  • What did seeing Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a donkey mean to the people at the time?

Maundy (Holy) Thursday

Maundy means “commandment”. This is the day we read the account of Jesus giving the “new commandment” to His disciples during the Last Supper.

  • Read Matthew 26:17-30

Ask these reflection questions:

  • How did everyone know who would betray Jesus?
  • What does Jesus want us to remember every time we take communion?

Good Friday

This is the most somber day of Holy Week, where we reflect on Jesus’ crucifixion. Today, I’d suggest simply reading the Bible story about this event and ask your kids if they have any questions about it.

  • Read Isaiah 53:4-6
  • Read Luke 23:1-49

Holy Saturday

This is the Sabbath on which Jesus rested in the grave.

  • Read Luke 23:50-56
  • Read Isaiah 52:13-15

Ask these reflection questions:

  • What loving thing did Joseph of Arimathea do for Jesus?
  • Why did the women from Galilee wait to prepare Jesus’ body for burial?

Easter Sunday

Celebrate Jesus’ Resurrection in a way that’s special to your family!

  • Read Matthew 28:1-10.
  • Go to your church service (or this year, watch it at home!) and sing for joy to the Lord. He is Risen!

I hope you have a wonderful Holy Week and Spring Break. Happy Easter to you all! See you all on Tuesday, April 6th!!!!

last call for school committee nominations

Each year during the month of March, nominations are sought for the Holy Angels School Committee. As a committee of the Parish Council, the HASC assists in the development of quality educational programs at Holy Angels School. At its monthly meetings, committee members review and recommend programs and policies, provide planning necessary for adequate funding of school programs, recommend salary and tuition schedules and instructional budget, and provide a significant avenue of communication between parents and the school.

Members serve a two-year term. Below is a form to offer nominations for this year’s School Committee election. If you are interested or have someone in mind who you think would be the ideal candidate, please complete and return the form to the school office no later than Monday, March 29th.

The K4 students practiced subtraction by acting out "5 Little Bunnies."
