Iowa-Grant's Panther Press
January 2021 / IGSD NEWSLETTER
FROM THE OFFICE OF STEPHANIE HUBBARD
Panther Families,
Welcome to January of 2021! I don’t know about you, but I feel very optimistic about 2021. I am knocking on wood as I write this, but I am hopeful that we will get beyond this pandemic and get back to our normal lives in 2021. I realize that this isn’t going to happen with the changing of the calendar, but it is going to happen. In the meantime, it continues to be important that each student, staff member, and family do their part:
Quarantine if you are a close contact to someone diagnosed with COVID-19.
Stay home if you or someone in your household is sick with COVID symptoms.
COVID testing expectations:
Consider getting tested if you have symptoms of COVID-19.
If you are being tested for COVID-19, remain at home while waiting for your results.
Remain at home and keep any family members home while waiting for test results of a household member who has symptoms and has been tested.
Wash hands frequently.
Cover coughs and sneezes.
Use face coverings in public.
Email the building secretaries (IGEMS/Danielle Hasburgh: dhasburgh@igs.k12.wi.us or IGHS/Alisha Pelton: apelton@igs.k12.wi.us) to report absences.
Email Sharon Friederick at sfriederick@igs.k12.wi.us to report COVID-19 cases, concerns, or ask COVID questions.
I look forward to the day that we don’t have to spend so much time contact tracing, analyzing the COVID data, and sharing COVID updates. Most importantly, I am excited that someday in 2021 students and staff will feel safe coming to school each day. Getting past the pandemic is a big part of my vision for 2021, but I want more for the IGSD community. The heart of my desire, as I imagine is the case for many in the IGSD community, is to be able to once again focus on teaching and learning. The day when we can open our facilities back up to outside organizations will be memorable. I am also anxious to get back on track with our District’s Strategic Plan.
I find that January is a great time to reflect on the past and consider how to make the future even brighter. This time spent helps me to be more purposeful and focused on what matters. I challenge others to spend some time reflecting and planning for 2021. The more of us who have a clear vision for the future, the more likely we are to see improvements to Iowa-Grant.
I wish everyone peace, safety, joy, and continuous improvement. Please take care of yourselves. Happy 2021!
As always, please reach out to me if you have any questions, concerns, or would just like to connect.
Sincerely,
Stephanie Hubbard, Superintendent, Iowa Grant School District

Board Members Wanted
School Board members play a very important role in the success of a district. The April 6th election will determine two of our Board members. We will not have any incumbents this year, so we have openings in Area 4 (Livingston) and Area 5 (Rewey).
Campaign Registration Statement and a Declaration of Candidacy, must be filed no later than 5:00 p.m., on Tuesday, January 5, 2021, in the District Office. The person elected to each Area will begin his/her term on Monday, April 26, 2021. If we don’t have individuals file for candidacy by the deadline, then it is very likely that write-in candidates will be elected.
We appreciate all Board members' hard work and dedication to the District. If anyone is interested in running , please feel free to contact Loras Winders at lwinders@igs.k12.wi.us. Current Board members may also be a great source of information. For more information on Board elections check out our District Bylaws under Board Policies 0000.

The show will go on in 2021!
This year all Forensics competitions will be virtual. The WHSFA has made several rule modifications to accommodate all students who want to participate. This is the ideal situation for students who may have been afraid to join in the past or have very full schedules. We can work on your timeline. Plans and piece selections are being made and practice schedules will be posted to begin by January 6th. It's not too late to join! Any high school student who is interested, should contact Mrs. Rolli as soon as possible.

Grant County Fair - Steer ID Information
It is that time of the year that we identify and weigh in our steer(s) for the 2021 Grant County Fair. In the past, we have done this at the Grant County Fairgrounds over Christmas break. This year, due to health safety recommendations concerning COVID-19, we will NOT be doing an in-person identification/weigh-in day this December. Exhibitors wishing to show beef or dairy steers in the market division will need to self-identify their steer(s) and submit paperwork by January 8, 2021, before 4:00 PM with the Grant County Extension Office. Please reach out to Mrs. Hammerly (lhammerly@igs.k12.wi.us) to obtain the proper forms and information that is needed to submit your identification/weigh-in forms, pictures, and proper weight slips on time. They will not accept any late entries!!! You will need to contact the Grant County Extension Office to request the number of tags needed.
