COUNSELING OFFICE
We started out I ❤️ Career Month with 200 students participating in Job a Shadow Day! We will continue the month with Career Assessments and opportunities for students to participate in Virtual Job Shadowing through the SC Education Department Occupation website through SCOIS. National Engineering Week is February 16-22. Any student interested in the field of Engineering has the opportunity to check out the Engineering Open House at the University of South Carolina on February 16th. This is not a school-sponsored event however, we want to highlight this great opportunity to participate in a one-day open house event geared toward kindergarten through 12th-grade students on Feb. 16. With hands-on exhibits, educational activities and opportunities to talk to real-life engineers, students can have all their engineering and computer science questions answered as they dive deeper into the field. MATH AND SCIENCE DAY FOR GIRLS
Hello everyone,
Columbia College is excited to announce that this year’s Math and Science Day for Girls will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2019, from 8:30-3:30 pm.
Math and Science Day is a day of collaboration, competition, creativity, and celebration of women in the mathematics and sciences. There will be workshops, hands-on activities, and group competitions. Please see the attached flyer as well as our event website https://columbiascmathandscienceday.weebly.com/ for more information.
Registration will open next week Tuesday, January 29 at 12 am. Register online at https://mathandsciencedayspring2019.eventbrite.com by Tuesday, February 12 at 11:59 pm. Tickets are available on a first come, first serve basis. Each school is allotted a maximum of ten student tickets.
Note: Please register only if you plan to attend this event. If you have to cancel your registration, let us know as soon as possible. A no-show is not only a cost to us but also results in another student not being able to attend.
We look forward to seeing you at this spring’s Math and Science Day event!

TEACHER SPOTLIGHT:
Please email us and tell us why you think a teacher is going above and beyond at our school. Every teacher nominated will have their morning duty or lunch duty for special area teachers taken care of for a day. The teachers truly appreciate knowing what they do matters and the break that comes with it. To nominate a teacher send an email to DFMIDDLEPTSA@gmail.com. Please add the teachers name, grade and why you are nominating them.
HELP NEEDED:
We are working with the SIC and guidance department to plan a digital/health awareness family event in April. We will need volunteers to help prepare, clean up, run the food station, and volunteers to just help direct people. Please email Jennifer Sandsted at dfmiddleptsa@gmail.com for more details.
NOTE:
If you have any ideas or suggestions please send us an e-mail. Share your thoughts. We'd love to hear from you!
A MESSAGE FROM OUR TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT
Caring for your district-issued Chromebook
With cold and flu season in full swing, it would be helpful to clean your Chromebook
Materials required:
- soft microfiber cloth
- spray bottle containing a solution of 50% water and 50% white distilled vinegar
Instructions for cleaning:
Disconnect charger and power down your device.
Spritz a soft microfiber cloth with a mixture of vinegar/water. (Do NOT spray anything directly on your Chromebook.)
Gently wipe using a circular motion to clean the monitor, keyboard, and touchpad.
Remove your Chromebook from the case.
Clean the outside of the Chromebook carefully by using the same moistened microfiber cloth from step 2.
Clean the inside and outside of the case with antibacterial wipes or the microfiber cloth used previously.
Allow the case to fully dry.
Place Chromebook back into your case.
*Please remind your child that they should have their own earbuds, rather than relying on sharing them with others. Earbuds should be wiped down occasionally as well.
