Scientific Revolution

What was the change?
The Scientific Revolution was a change in the way people viewed the world. This change occured in Europe and it lasted from 1550 to 1700. New ideas in physics, astronomy, biology, and anatomy changed the way europeans viewed the natural world.
Who were the people associated with the change?
Johannes Kepler
Johannes Kepler's observations proved the heliocentric model of the universe was true. Kepler proposed some laws of planetary motion based on his observations. The first law he proposed was that the planets move in elliptical orbits around the sun. The second law is that planets move more rapidly as their orbits approach the sun. The last one says that the time it takes a planet to orbit the sun is proportional to its distance from the sun.
Isaac Newton
Isaac Newton proposed the law of universal gravitation. Thid law states that every object in the universe attracts every other object. He also believed that the universe was like a giant clock and that all of its parts worked perfectly ttogether in ways that could be expressed mathematically.
Galileo Galiei
Galileo Galiei was an Italian math professor who set out to prove many of Aristotle's theories about nature wrong. He proved that heavy objects fall at the same rate as lighter ones. He also used the telescope to study sunspots, Jupiter's moons, and the moon's surface. The church strongly disagreed with his work but he refused to stop. He was put under house arrest until he died.
How did the change impact the society at the time?
The Scientific Revolution changed the way that people viewed the natural world. It was a really big change at the time because all of these new laws were testing the way everybody had always viewed the universe.
How is that change evidenced in today's society?
All of the laws that were discovered are used by scientists today. Scientists use them to dig deeper into their research. If these laws had not been created when they had, then a lot oof discoveries probably would not have happened.
