Report cards are coming Friday, November 20th!

Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

You are receiving your child's report card on Friday, November 20th. It will be in an envelope in the backpack. Please sign the envelope indicating that you have received the report card and return the envelope by Tues. Nov. 24th. If you have any questions or concerns about the your child's grades, as always, please arrange to talk with the teacher so the teacher can give you more detail. If you need interpretation, please let us know in the office and we will gladly help you.

I would also like to announce one of our school goals for this year. As part of our parent engagement goal, we are using parent attendance at three or more school meetings, trainings, and events as a measure of success. To help us measure our success on this goal, please be sure to sign in at every meeting, training, or school activity.

The partnership between families and school is very important as it helps every child to be more successful in their learning.

In partnership,

Theresa Lambert
Principal Mariano Castro Elementary

Reminder: No Classes November 25-November 30

Next week we will have a short school week in celebration of Thanksgiving.

We will have classes on Monday and Tuesday of next week (November 23-24).

School will be closed from 11/25-11/30. Classes will resume on Tuesday, December 1st.

More Instructional Time for Every Child at Mariano Castro - Extended School Day

Part of our turnaround changes planned by the staff for this school year to make an impact on student achievement is to extend the school day.

This will provide an additional 30 minutes of instruction for every child and school for everyone would begin at 8:00 a.m. instead of 8:30 a.m. Dismissal time would remain the same.

This is a proposal that has been given to the district office and is currently being discussed with the unions. The start date has not yet been determined, however we are aiming for January 5, 2016.

Please join me at the Principal's Coffee on Monday, Nov. 16th to discuss this important topic.

Why is it important that students are in school regularly?

Research shows that school attendance is a strong indicator of success. It's about students learning what they need to know, belonging to the school community, and being part of the team that is preparing them with good habits for high school. For more information, see
