This Week's Learning Targets

Language Arts:

Fiction: The Adventures of Ali Baba Bernstein

This week we will practice recognizing the character, setting and plot within a text and use this further comprehend the story

Grammar: Recognize and use simple and complete subjects and predicates within sentences

Root Words: bio (life), chron (time)

Read Aloud: Wonder


Writing Workshop/Speech Masters: Students have created a speech outline highlighting three special things they will share with the class. This week students will use the outline to draft their speech on notecards. Midweek students will practice and rehearse their short speech with a partner. At the end of this week and throughout next week, each day several students will present their speech.


Students selected presentation dates today. Please ask your child which day they will be presenting and encourage them to practice/rehearse with a family member at home the night before their presentation date.


Math: Place Value: This week students will continue to practice comparing numbers, as well as rounding numbers to the nearest thousand, ten thousand and hundred thousand.


Word Problems: Students also began solving multi-step word problems and practiced different strategies to identify key information and action words to best interpret and solve the problems.


Multiplication Facts: Students will begin multiplication fact quizzes and have been asked to study their basic math facts each night for 5-10 minutes. This week students will take the "Multiplication Mega Test" to see which facts they need to continue studying. Please look for your child's results in your child's Friday folder at the end of the week.


Social Studies: California Symbols & Regions: Students will complete their research on CA state symbols and begin to read about the different attributes and characteristics of the coastal, mountain, desert and coastal regions.

On the last Friday of every month, I will submit a Scholastic Book Order. Books can be ordered easily online using our class activation code J8GTL. Catalogs will come home in Friday folders a couple of times each month.
