On Tuesday, January 5, Fulton County has a Professional Development Day. As members of the Vanguard Team, you will participate in the PD we have designed. And because we're Vanguard, we're thinking outside the box!

PD will take place at various locations throughout Atlanta. Folks will have the option of signing up to visit/tour one of the companies or museums being offered. We will have required pre-learning (which will count towards 2 hours of your PD day!) and time at the end to evaluate and reflect.

We're still confirming a couple of the locations, but as soon as we do, we will allow you (all cohorts!) to pick your PD location. Stay tuned!

Vanguard members will have an opportunity to tour the new McNair MS on Saturday, December 12 from 10:00-1:00. This exciting space represents the future for Personalized Learning environments and we have an innovative staffing opportunity for Vanguard members. Can you imagine teaching with all educators just like you? If that sounds exciting to you, be sure to come for the tour where you'll have a chance to ask questions about this new school model.

Visit the link to indicate one of three preferences:

  1. Yes, I'm coming, but just to see the new building.
  2. Yes, I'm coming and am interested in staffing opportunities.
  3. No, I can't come, but I'm interested in staffing opportunities.

The Vancademy Awards

Saturday, May 14th 2016 at 7-9pm

9310 Scott Road

Mark your calendars! We have a date and location (Centennial HS) for our very first VANCADEMY AWARDS! This event will celebrate Vanguard and all of the amazing things being done by our members. Categories for awards will be announced soon!

By the end of November, it's important to be current on all of the applicable reflections.

Unsure what you've completed? Check your reflections online!

As you are asked questions about Personalized Learning and people want to see specific examples, direct them to the Roving Reporter page on our website. The goal is to continually add videos featuring different aspects of PL and build an incredible video reference bank that can be used to promote Fulton County Schools, the Vanguard Team, Personalized Learning, Education Elements, KSU, the individual schools, and the folks appearing in the clips.

Way to Go, Farhat!

Huge congratulations to Farhat Ahmad, a new Vanguard member at McClarin HS! Farhat is being recognized in the Innovation in Teaching Competition. "The Innovation in Teaching Competition began under Georgia’s Race to the Top (RT3) plan as a way to recognize and reward Georgia educators who are using innovative strategies to advance student achievement. The competition has two main goals. First, to reward outstanding teachers who advance student achievement every day. And second, to make videos of the winning teachers, along with their unit plans and supplementary materials, available to other teachers"

Farhat will receive:

  • $3,000 stipend for serving as a model educator,
  • $4,000 grant to support innovative practices in his/her school, and
  • Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) will film his/her classroom and make this video, along with his/her unit plan and supplementary materials, available online for other teachers.

Congratulations, Farhat! Thank you for being a member of our team!

Group 1 schools began their Learning Walks this week with the Education Elements team. Schools had an opportunity to share their progress and decide upon action steps for the upcoming months. Vanguard member, Daniel Hodge, participated in the Learning Walk at Shakerag ES on Wednesday and the EdElements team invited him to speak with Group 3 schools at their Design WS 1.0 on Thursday.

Thank you to Daniel and all of the Vanguard members in our Group 1 schools for representing so well this week!
